As of December 2015, I still use uBreakiFix for all of my technology repairs. They fixed my broken screen on ASUS laptop for about $100. Great price, and I wouldn't trust anyone else.
My original review said:
I owe these people a serious and glowing review after what they did for me and my Enigma Machine (what I adoringly named my dear, sweet, loyal iPhone 4).
It started when my iPhone power button become a tiny bit recessed. I dropped it, as I typically do, at work several times that day and I called Apple at Ross Park. Unfortunately, they told me I had to buy a new phone, which is ludicrous because it's a cheap repair and my iPhone has been a beast. Feeling like I had no other option, I spent some time researching how to repair it by myself. While looking, I remembered giggling at the "uBreakiFix" store sign solely for its name when it first opened in this area. What impressed me first was how quickly they were able to take my phone. I unfortunately forgot names, but the gentleman at the counter thoroughly looked my phone over, made the repair, and sent me on my way a mere 45 minutes and $50 later. To save my lovely iPhone for only $50 was superb and saved me from the risk of possibly obliterating my iPhone myself while attempting to make the delicate repair. Or from having to buy a new iPhone, which I knew I didn't need.
A few months later, I, you guessed it, dropped my phone again. The proximity sensor no longer functioned or responded to any troubleshooting. While it voided the one year repair guarantee that I had with them, it was my stupid clumsiness so I called them again. uBreakiFix took me immediately ... but something happened that caused them to earn me as a loyal customer for life:
The gentleman who went to fix my phone came back about five minutes later and told me that the sensor was fine. When I dropped the phone, it must have made the wire come loose. He plugged it back in and applied a small amount of glue to prevent it from happening again so easily. He refunded the money I had already paid for the repair and finished everything free of charge.
I felt that this was a situation where they could have absolutely gotten another $50 out of me because I wouldn't have known. When someone goes out of their way to be honest like that, they earn my respect and lifetime patronage.
If you're a klutz like me and frequently drop your technology, ESPECIALLY if it's a piece of Apple technology, don't take it to the Apple Geniuses. All they'll do is try to sell you a new phone. And, really, after dealing with Apple customer service since I got my first iPod in 2005, I don't know why I didn't realize it sooner: they don't know anything about the products they sell. They know how to take the battery out, do basic troubleshooting, reset the product ... but that's likely it.
I HIGHLY recommend uBreakiFix if you need a technology repair. They're great, honest people, inexpensive, and a joy to chat with. They won't push you to buy extra repairs (they may make some suggestions) or products. Most importantly, they really know their stuff and your techno-baby will be safe in their hands.
Thank you for...
Read moreOnly go here if you're willing to constantly wonder what's going on, be lied to, have your calls ignored until they ring out, and deal with an aggressively upsold monthly subscription that "might" help your wait time. Of course you can’t cancel that online, by the way, so you’ll have to call and fight to get it over with. I could not regret it more. While the staff are for the most part friendly, they are so incredibly understaffed that they cannot get repairs done efficiently. Take their estimated time and multiply it by 3, and know that you will still be waiting after. The diagnostic process took about 2 and a half weeks, or at least that was when I called and found out that they had finally managed to open my computer.
When I first dropped my device off I was told that I would be contacted in 5-8 days; I called after 10. Then I was told that I would be contacted the following Sunday; I called the following Wednesday, when I was informed that a diagnostic had finally been performed at some point between calls and that I would get a discount on the final price due to the trouble, as well as that my part was ordered so the repair would hopefully be done in a week. I was called on the next Saturday, when I was informed that no part had been ordered, the last person had quit, and I now needed to put a down payment on the full price and wait another week. I was also told that I would receive email confirmation of payment, but guess what I never got?
My options were $325 ($348 with fees) for this given timeframe of around a month or $175 to wait several more weeks. This is despite a mentioned discount and supposed $50 off due to the membership. The next Wednesday I called at around 1pm and was left to ring out twice. I got multiple emails about the subscription service in the meantime (and ZERO about the actual repair, unless you count the drop-off confirmation that quite literally only says "none" in the body). The only one who actually contacted me was Shane when he took over, and he did switch the part out the day after it got there. While I appreciated his communication and quickness it didn’t make up for the rest.
Now I have to wonder how many of these reviews are possibly real. Maybe some were lucky to have quick fixes like a charging port needing to be cleaned, so they didn't have to deal with the real mess in this place. With these staffing issues I can only assume that they are as awful to work for as they are to get...
Read moreI will revise this review after I have a chance to go back to the store but I don't know what they can do for me.
went in with broken ipad screen, even after groupon paid just a few bucks shy of a hundred dollars to replace.
the digitizer glass has a noticeable 'float' above the LCD (looks like a dual layer pressure touch screen now) as if either it was installed with too big of a gap or the replacement is so thin that there is a lot of air between the LCD and the glass that shouldn't be there.
the bottom left corner doesn't 'sit' in the aluminum frame, and it feels like the aluminum framing was really mangled at the bottom right corner to get the new digitizer glass installed. this I may be able to get them to fix because the installation wasn't tight, but if the aluminum was too mangled while they were pulling out the broken screen they cannot 'unmangle' it. worse: the mangle is in the bottom corner where I hold the ipad so all I can feel while holding it is the sharp edge of the aluminum frame.
the replacement part (and here's the main problem) feels like a cheap plastic POS. all finger marks stick to it like glue and wont ever wipe off. It is flexible - it's so thin and flimsy every touch causes the replacement screen to bend. The digitizer grid is so obvious and visible, not only is it visible when the screen is off (which.. whatever) even when the screen is on, a solid white or bright background refracts visibly through the digitizer grid making it really distracting to read anything on the screen.
even if I get them to honor the warranty and fix the bottom left corner that doesn't sit quite right, I don't see how the warranty can make up for what appears to be a very low cost replacement digitizer/glass. I wasn't expecting an exact replacement to the apple screen but this feels below even mid-grade android screen material (even when I side-by-side with my old Nexus tablet).
the other reviews here make it sound like the people who work here are super nice and I hate to give a bad review but if this screen is the best material they stock, I should have just bought a good quality screen and...
