The one thing I knew I wanted for my wedding was an out-of-the-box venue. I have been to so many weddings inside a standard hall and they all seem the same. After searching for unique wedding venues, we stumbled upon the Royal Oak Music Theatre, and I absolutely fell in love. Walking in at first, it is somewhat difficult to envision a wedding layout in a space like they have, but after understanding and seeing pictures, the room transform into, in my opinion, the best type of wedding layout. You walk into the theatre entryway: gorgeous and a large space. We used this space as our entry way and our area for cocktail hour. We had 300 guests and this space was great! You walk over to the biggest bar I have ever seen for a wedding! Our second request for our wedding was a cool bar atmosphere (because we wanted our guests to have the best time) and check that off the box. This bar area is incredible. Not only is it huge, it really is a place for guests to socialize and talk. Most wedding bars – people wait in this huge line, pushing their way up to the 1 or 2 bartenders on staff. This bar is so huge, that everyone can hang around the bar. Since we had 300 guests, we had 4 bartenders and an additional runner – so no one was waiting on a drink. I loved seeing guests hang around the bar and using it to socialize with other guests. Then you look into the theatre, which is set up so no matter where you sit, you get the best seat in the house. The theatre has little slight levels – broken out by a few stairs each. The levels allow all guests to be close to the action and get a great view of the reception events. Sometimes you go to a wedding and can barely see what is happening when you get stuck in the back corner – but that is not the case here. We decided to have the bridal party sit on the stage, which I loved – again because everyone could see us. And you have the biggest dance floor to keep your guests dancing and partying all throughout the night! And you can’t forget having your names outside on the huge, bright sign?! This space is absolutely insane. I have guests telling me over and over again that this was the best wedding that they have ever been too – 300 guests – many been to countless weddings – and this was the most memorable wedding. That right there was what I was looking for – and that is what you will get with the Royal Oak Music Theatre as your venue!!! But, I can’t forget those that helped me every step of the way to create this amazing wedding: Jessie and Shae. You will work with these fabulous ladies from the minute you ask to visit the venue till a month after your wedding when you are still emailing about how great the night was!!! They are the best to work with. They are so experienced with wedding planning, but also with what works and what doesn’t work in this specific space. They are always open to answer questions and help you with whatever you need like advice, vendors, etc. I worked with them both for almost a year – and they listened to my vision and helped me create that. That made great suggestions and offered a lot especially because I really had no idea what I was doing! I can not say enough good words about the venue and Jessie and Shae. My guests continuously talk about our wedding and it is two months later. If you are a bride or groom looking for a memorable venue and one amazing party / event, the Royal Oak Music Theatre is the venue for you! I can only speak about my wedding, but I know this venue would be great for other events because you have Jessie and Shae to help make your...
Read moreBeing one of the more popular music venues in the metro Detroit area, I really am not sure how it had taken me so long to finally see a show here, but really that's neither here nor there.
Conveniently located in the Washington Square area of downtown Royal Oak, there are places to eat, places to shop, and most importantly of all, places to park all within the surrounding area. With that being said, all of those things combined mean that this is an incredibly busy part of town (especially on days/nights when there is a show here). There are ample parking options available within the vicinity, and it's an easy find if you're choosing to take an Uber/Lyft here. Even with it being a super busy area, and it being even busy when there is a show, it's really not difficult at all to get out and be on your way.
I've been to a myriad of music venues all over the place and some have their stuff together when it comes to handling crowds, safety, and the overall experience of being at a show, and some do not. I can safely say that this place makes you want to keep coming back to see shows here. The staff is friendly, professional, and quick. Even when it is super packed it seems like it doesn't take nearly as long as some other venues to make your way to the door, through security, and then to your seats.
There are multiple bars, including one massive bar that you won't be able to miss if you're on the main floor (it's BIG). I personally don't really think there is a bad seat in the house. This place is built for seeing live music, and it does a great job conveying that.
However, if you have the means of doing so, I highly suggest trying to get suite tickets (if they're available for the particular show you're seeing). The suite also referred to as "The Projection Room" is a private area that only holds a very small amount of people, in a lounge style setting. This private mezzanine level area has it's own coat check, private bar, and private bathroom. You also essentially get the benefit of having a concierge of sorts, which also involves you being able to skip whatever line has accumulated out front, and be whisked away straight upstairs to your suite (sweet) seats. You also get early access to the venue before doors officially open (though I did not partake in that specific perk, it does exist). Though considerably more expensive than lets say your average GA ticket, it is 1000% worth it. I mean the private bar and bathroom alone are worth the upcharge. Literally once you go suite you won't go back, it really does make the show you're seeing much more enjoyable overall. If you can, just pay for the upgrade and thank me later. It's completely worth it.
When all is said and done, there should be no hesitation on your part if someone whose music you enjoy is playing here. It's a no brainer, buy the ticket and enjoy the show. You won't regret...
Read moreREAD WHOLE REVIEW - Attended my first concert here, brought 3 girls for the Why Don't We concert. We waited in line for 4 hours. Just before the general admission door opened the line was shifted to the other side of the building. We were told this was to make more room on the sidewalks for safety. As we were starting to get close to the door, myself as well as many other parents in line notices that there now were two lines. When they shifted the line to the other end of the building they created a new line. The new line consisted of the people who were waiting towards the end of our original one line. Those people were being let in before us. I noticed a few parents discussing this with security at the door. They called for a manager and were waiting. I decided to wait as well because I was quite irritated. Within 5 minutes, Tommy, the operations manager met with us. He listened to our concerns and tried to explain why he did what he did. Many of the parents were angry and walked away. I continued discussing the issue with him. Tommy explained that he had to make a decision to split the line due to amount of people attending the concert waiting outside and their safety. He asked the people at the front of the new line when they arrived. They said 2:30. I informed him that they had stretched the truth with him a bit likely because they realized the sooner they told him the sooner he would let them in. He started letting them in before we got in which means we waited 4 hours in line and people who maybe arrived an hour ago were getting in sooner. In my opinion this was not fair and the new line should have been held outside until everyone before them in line got in. A line is a line even with general admission seats. There was no need to rush everyone in all at once. Now why am I giving this a 5 star review? Because Tommy and his entire staff were completely professional. Tommy listened to my concerns, helped me find my group since we got split up and even brought us some waters. He empathized with my frustrations and apologized. His staff remained professional even though many people were irritated. I would go to this venue again and if I owned a business like this, I would definitely want Tommy...
