When I walked into the salon, I was greeted with a warm energy and calming atmosphere. I was hopeful to finally get my hair done, since I had been avoiding doing so because of how anxious it makes me. Yet, everyone I had interacted with was exceptionally kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, my hair just didn’t turn out the way I wanted. I made clear to my stylist that the most important part of getting my hair done was having my natural roots blended in. My natural hair color is mousy blonde. I wanted to grow out my hair without an obvious break in color.

My previous blonde hair had been dyed black 7 months prior. At this point it had faded out to brown. I understood getting all of the old dye out of my hair was not guaranteed, so the lovely blonding specialist and I discussed lightening the faded color with bleach was the best course of action. I told the stylist it would be totally okay if my hair wasn’t blonde like the first photo, as long as it was a closer shade to my roots. I did not want my roots touched whatsoever. I did not want any color.

Unfortunately, and without my knowledge, dark brown dye had been deposited on my roots and lowlights. I didn’t even realize until after my hair was washed and a gloss was put on. I was speechless and I waited in anticipation for my hair to dry out in hopes it would turn out lighter. Between the second and third picture, the overall color was the exact same but now with dark roots.

I left the salon feeling really upset. Did I just waste $300 for the exact opposite result of what I wanted? I contacted my stylist that night and told her I was unhappy with how my hair turned out. She was very understanding, and she was able to get me in the next day for some highlights. This was exceptional on her part and I am very grateful that she tried to fix my hair so soon.

My hair definitely got an improvement after the second session. Unfortunately bleaching it again in such a short period of time had heavily damaged the follicles. My stylist did warn me that this would happen, but I just feel like some of the damage could’ve been prevented had there not been color added in. It was also a bummer because I had already chopped a lot of my hair off to get rid of previous damage and it was really short. My roots and some lowlights are still very dark, but overall I am pleased with the results compared to the night before.

My stylist was very gracious and patient, but I think there should have been more communication before jumping right in. I thought we were on the same page during the consultation, but I think what I wanted was lost in translation by the time my appointment rolled around. I would return to Lucero again, but with knowledge that I should probably ask my stylist what they are doing every time they return to the chair.

Thank you for reading :)

*I apologize for not having the best lighting in the pictures, I still hope the...

I hadn’t gotten my hair done since 2015, and it took a long time before I found somewhere I was comfortable with going. After being recommended Lucero Hair & Wellness by a couple different sources, I finally booked an appointment.

Booking itself was incredibly easy, and the staff replied quickly to my questions and helped get me set up. It made me feel valued as a new customer and left a good impression.

My appointment was with Lishette, and she really went above and beyond. My hair is not the easiest to work with but she made it look easy. You can tell the whole team is passionate about their work (as well as extremely knowledgeable) and they take the time to really give you an individual experience— no cookie cutters here! They will take amazing care of you.

I got my hair straightened after a wash, and let me tell you: I have never escaped a hair straightening without a burn until this appointment. That probably impressed me more than anything else! Every step of the process was efficient, comfortable, and easy.

The space itself is quite nice. It’s comfortable without being too informal, it’s modern without being sterile. You’re offered a drink and snack free as part of your appointment, which is a small touch but really nice. It’s welcoming and doesn’t feel gate-kept which made a big difference in my experience.

The prices are, in my opinion, more than fair for the amount of care and experience the team exhibits. They’re also gratuity-free which is something I love to see— it lets me know that the team is being well taken care of.

I will definitely be returning to Lucero’s, and I would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for these services. Whether you’re coming for a routine trim or starting a whole new hair journey, I really think you’ll love Lucero’s...

I just want to start off by saying that my appointment at the salon was the first that I had had in salt lake. And i was pleasantly surprised! As soon as you walk into the salon it’s a breath of fresh air. The vibes were immaculate, everyone in the studio was very kind, and it is generally a very pretty building.

I had my hair cut with Mel, and she was very kind to me throughout the whole experience and made me feel so welcome! Prior to my appointment my hair was shoulder length and I had been growing out a wolf cut shag kind of style. I wanted something shorter with longer layers. I showed Mel a couple of pictures, and she executed the style on point! (The pictures I showed were with curly hair, and mine is straightish, so it was crazy to see how similar the two were when I got home and started playing around with my hair).

I was a little shocked with the length of the style. I guess it hadn’t occurred to me that it was so short (which I’m not sure why??) But anyways, I really like the style now, I’m loving the short length and I have had lots of fun styling it! I got a little teary eyed about the whole thing in the moment though, but Mel was very kind to me in making sure that I was alright and so were others, which I really appreciate!

Overall it was a great experience to have my hair cut, all my past experiences I have been given very bob-like cuts, but with this cut it’s so flowy and masculine, I really like it!!!! And I can tell it is going to grow out really well, so overall it’s just a great job done. So thank you everyone at the salon for giving me a great experience!! I would definitely recommend anybody looking for a more androgynous/masculine haircut to give this...

I have cut my own hair every 2-3 weeks for the last 10 years… I thought I was terribly clever and saving money… really, I was missing out. Less than 10 times, I have gotten my hair cut professionally in the last 10 years, almost always for big events like weddings. Almost every time I go home and start cutting hair, they miss. My hair is very fine and blond, so it's easy for them to miss a few, especially around my ears. But it drives me crazy. Why pay someone if I am going to have to fix it anyway? But last week I had a meeting at Goldman Sachs, and I wanted to put my best foot forward. And give a pro another try. I know Josh personally, and so I decided to visit him and Lucero Hair and Wellness. Honestly, I couldn't be more impressed. He started by telling me that the way I have been cutting my hair is part of the problem…. “With your hair type, I get it gets really poofy right here at….. some obscure word for a part of my head I have never heard of..” He was exactly right! “I am going to cut it shorter up here, and it will last longer and look better.” I let the pro do his job. And that was the difference. Before I was going to people who cut hair to make a living. Now I was in the hands of someone whose living was hair. He was a true pro and the whole experience was proof of that. It definitely wasn’t the cheap haircut that led to me cutting my own hair… this was a customer experience worth paying for. And I will definitely be back!
