A couple hours away from Houston you can enjoy world class dining in a unique atmosphere that can only be found in San Antonio Texas. Whether you're in the mood for brunch or dinner you will not be disappointed. Start your vacation by going to Bakery Lorainne and enjoy a Croque Madam and French toast, wash it all down with the grapefruit mimosa and cappuccino and your day can only get better. In the summer during the day it can get quite hot so take a 20 yard walk to the hall and enjoy a Froze or the Mango Margarita. If you're up for ramen's or American Fair or Mexican go for it. You can get some light snack and get something to share. I recommend making a reservation to one of the many amazing restaurants. The Boiler House is our favorite, it can be very busy even on a weekday, make sure you reserve a table. I prefer to sit in the back, it can be quieter and more intimate. The Quail Popper appetizers are to die for. The French restaurant Chou Chou has a wonderful ambience, and you can never go wrong with steak frit. During the evening take a moment to sit on the artificial soft grass and watch the sunset. All while having a cocktail. If you're lucky you can see the students the culinary institute cooking. If you're interested in shopping there are many boutique stores all inside the brewery. Take at least a couple hours and walk down to the river and go both up and down they've done a great job taking care of the landscape and trying to keep it as natural looking as possible. There are great spots in the middle of the river that you can take wonderful pictures. This is by far one of my top five favorite destinations in Texas. I have been here twice now and it's gotten better since last time. On Sundays they have a farmers market where 20 or more booths sell their artisanal foods and art. Sometimes they will have live music. Tell the kids to wear something that they can get wet because the splash pad is fantastic and your dogs will go bananas playing in the splash pad too. The entire brewery is dog friendly and the green open space gives kids lots of running space. I recommend looking for an Airbnb in the area. We found a Tiny House just a few blocks from Pearl. The brewery is 100% wheelchair accessible. A short drive in any direction take you to some great museums, The Japanese Tea Garden, or Breckenridge park. 2 days at Pearl brewery is enough to catch...
Read moreFinally got around to the Pearl Brewery’s Weekend Market Days. We Went Sunday at 10:00 am very nice a little more packed than I had expected and a-lot more dogs too. I’m talking big dogs and not all were very tame. They were all on leashes thank goodness but a few were ready to lash out at any dog which can be a little scary and some were so large THEY were walking their owners rather than the other way around.
More dogs mean more poop and and less human space. So there was always someone scooping up some where ever we were so that was pretty gross, for me anyway especially since we Had my 1 yr old grandson who wasn’t in the best of moods (teething) so with him cranky, a bit of a crowd and dogs barking and having to watch our step it wasn’t the most relaxing stroll. There’s an area for laying down a blanket and I wish we had brought one because I would’ve preferred to have done that and let my daughter shop while the baby and I relaxed on the lawn which looked inviting, but we didn’t realize it was an option until we were there. Next time. As for the Market itself the produce and veggies and exhibits were great. Just a bit pricier than I expected but hey, it’s healthy so expect it!i guess.
I think having gone our first time we now know what to expect. The day was really nice & we’d like to go back but be a bit more prepared. Meaning a Blanket & more money. I did buy a few items like the cinnamon pecans & some fermented juices for health & muscle cramps. Glad I did they’ve already worked!
I gave it 4 stars because it’s such a nice place it deserved 5 but the amount of dogs and poop was a problem for me. It didn’t help me relax and enjoy this day like I honestly wanted to. I love all animals but I think a dog park is best for pets this wasn’t the largest walking area to have that many animals walking about. Definitely going back just s little...
Read moreWe did a weekend getaway paired with a concert at the ATT Center. Our airbnb was less than a mile from the Pearl so I planned spending a decent amount of time here with the hopes of not having to drive or venture out far. This place has everything you need! There is an assortment of restaurants from cuisine and prices. We were able to explore the farmers market on Saturday morning and picked up items from several vendors including baked goods, spices, and a few bottles of wine (some strawberry Poteet wine too).
After the farmers market cleared out we had lunch at LA Gloria. It was amazing and they had the best flan I've ever had. They have a nice outdoor patio and live music. After we did some shopping at the stores around the Pearl before we headed out to relax and change.
We decided to come back to get some good night pictures and enjoy some of the bars before eating dinner at Southern Leigh Brewery. It was a 90 minute wait for dinner which allowed us plenty of time to explore and get some good night shots. There were several talented musicians doing street performances in the area. The Blue Bar had a laid back atmosphere and an extensive liqour selection. Dinner at Southern Leigh was good, my wife said they had the best fresh oysters that she has ever had. I had the pressure cooked fried chicken and it was good, but not amazing. The staff was attentive and the ambiance was chill.
The premium paid parking ($8) on the weekend was well light and secure. The layout of the Pearl was well thought out and it backs up to the Riverwalk. Plenty of things to explore and easy to spend hours exploring and enjoying the area. There is plenty of green space and the area is...
