An Unforgettable Day with Big Blue Photography Boat – Ocean Magic at Its Finest! There are ocean days… and then there are Big Blue days. What started as a photography outing turned into one of the most jaw-dropping marine encounters I’ve ever witnessed. We set out from San Diego aboard the Big Blue Photography Boat, a comfortable, well-equipped, and perfectly designed for ocean lovers and photographers alike. We headed toward the Coronado Canyon and before long, the ocean came alive. We found ourselves surrounded by massive bait balls flashing silver just beneath the surface, thousands of tiny fish moving in synchronized panic as sleek, powerful tuna tore through them like living torpedoes. The water literally sounded alive, the rush of tuna cutting through the sea echoed like a cascading waterfall beneath the boat. It was pure, natural chaos, a feeding frenzy that felt straight out of a documentary. And then, as if scripted by nature itself, the fin whales appeared, gliding gracefully behind the commotion, their immense forms slicing through the blue with elegance and calm amid the frenzy. Seeing these ocean giants trailing the action, surfacing with deep, thunderous exhales, was absolutely humbling. The crew on Big Blue were phenomenal, knowledgeable, respectful of wildlife, and passionate about sharing the beauty of the open ocean. Their timing and skill at reading the sea gave us front-row seats to one of the ocean’s greatest spectacles. If you’re looking to truly feel the pulse of the Pacific, to witness life in its rawest and most majestic form, this is the trip to take. Big Blue doesn’t just take you on a boat ride, they take you into the heart of the ocean’s wild story.

Hi there! Without a doubt, one of the Best days on the water! I am a boater, and live in the San Diego area, most weekends you will find me with family and friends on the water 🌊. Many times I’ve seen the Dolphins play in and around us, However, never like this! Being eye level, at the bow of the vessel, hearing the tails of the dolphins slap down as they played in the water and hearing them as they moved through the water was electrifying, it was an experience I will never forget. The passion and knowledge Susan and Matthias have for the ocean and all of the amazing sea life is so inspiring to not only listen to, but to also have them share with us. If you are looking for a meaningful, life changing experience on the water, this is it! This was on my 86 year old mom’s bucket list to do and she was right up front with us! All 4 of her daughters got to see tears in her eyes as we all enjoyed this very special moment! Those adventurers that don’t mind getting wet… be out front and “Lean In”. To have only the ocean and sea life in your vision was ✨ magical! No boat, was in my eyesight and I truly felt like I was body surfing and swimming with them, I also was crying!! A moment forever in my heart ♥️ and Soul!

We had a PHENOMENAL experience with Big Blue Photo Boat this past Saturday morning. Susan was so gracious and welcoming - she made us feel like family. We felt very safe on The Protector and had absolutely no issues with motion sickness or temperature (thanks to the blankets Susan provided!). Although we were unable to spy any whales beyond a small shy minke, Susan never stopped diligently searching (all ships that morning were unable to locate any whales). Susan was determined for us to get up close to some sea life, so she chased down a nursery pod of dolphins & we were literally right by the babies & able to get some cool videos/photos. We even spotted a very large (12 ft or so) shark who was also interested in the baby dolphins - obviously for nefarious reasons! The boat was a smooth ride & a fabulous alternative to the big commercial tour experiences. You will not regret booking with Big Blue Photo Boat - it was truly a once in a lifetime experience & well worth the cost.

I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a private tour with Big Photo Expedition, and to say it was transformative would be an understatement. From the very beginning, the experience was meticulously curated to ensure it was nothing short of fantastic.

The San Diego coast came alive in a way I had never witnessed before. As the boat cut through the pristine waters, we were accompanied by the majestic and gentle giants of the sea. But this wasn’t just a typical whale-watching tour. Alongside the breathtaking visuals, I was deeply enlightened by the knowledge shared about various whale species. Each tale, fact, and trivia only deepened my appreciation for these magnificent creatures.

For filmmakers, artists, and musicians: if you are on the hunt for unparalleled locations for your next project, look no further. The picturesque backdrop of San Diego, combined with the majestic presence of the whales, offers a setting that is both surreal and cinematic. Whether you're aiming to capture the ethereal beauty of these marine giants for a documentary or looking for an iconic shot for your music video, Big Photo Expedition provides an environment that is nothing short of magic.

What truly sets Big Photo Expedition apart, though, is their commitment to crafting bespoke experiences. Susan and Mattias expertise not only in navigating the waters but also in understanding the nuances required for creative projects ensures that you leave with footage or memories that are unique and unparalleled.

In conclusion, whether you're an enthusiast looking to be awed by the wonders of marine life or a professional scouting for that perfect oceanic backdrop, Big Photo Expedition in San Diego promises and delivers an experience that is both intimate and grand. Dive into this adventure, and you'll come out enriched in more ways...

My wife and I looked at several whale watching tours before deciding on Big Blue Photo Boat and we were super happy with our choice. Susan and Matthias were incredibly comfortable to tour with. My wife and I were the only clients going out on the afternoon of Jan 29, and they still took us out and we had a great time chatting and exploring the marine life. Most excursion hosts would've canceled the trip. I knew I wanted a smaller vessel rather than fighting for viewing amidst the commotion of a large boat stuffed with people. The "Scout" definitely didn't disappoint!

It didn't take them long to figure out where to find the whales! We followed two humpbacks during the course of the afternoon and experienced the thrilling, crashing splashes of two full breaches. We also found ourselves surrounded by a pod of dolphins numbering in the hundreds. Everywhere we looked were the busy, happy splashes of leaping dolphins. Momma dolphins, baby dolphins, poppa dolphins--everywhere surrounding us in roiling waters. So FUN!!

My wife was reluctant from the beginning to the whole whale boat tour idea over concerns of sea sickness. It took me an entire month to convince here to go. However, while cruising around the sea swells I asked her several time how she was doing and she didn't feel a thing! Very comfortable ride. Susan and Mathias have the perfect set up for riding around and maximizing vision of the marine life and creating an cozy, intimate experience that feels more like being with family than on a giant, crowded, chaotic,...
