We just had the best experience with Sam!

I have a golden retriever who doesn’t know she’s supposed to like water so I booked with Sam specifically because of her own dog’s story. After a brief but thorough training, my family of 4 (including never SUP before husband) headed out with our golden.

My dog was so happy to be sitting with me as I knelt down. Sam helped instruct my family on SUP techniques and gave me feedback for my dog. Unexpectedly, my dog got her sea legs and just decided to switch boards to my daughter then to the next. My husband (now with slight experience in SUP) didn’t want her rocking his board so stopped her.

My daughter wanted to encourage her to swim by my dog wasn’t having it so she transferred back to younger daughter. She didn’t like that I got away and jumped in ON HER OWN and swam to me. I was so nervous about getting her out and tipping my SUP over but Sam gave me feedback the entire time (not yelling nor overwhelming, just real-time useful feedback) and I got her back on the board effortlessly.

My dog LOVED it!!!! She was so happy the entire time! She loved switching boards but loved to be near me so took an extra swim to get to me a second time, but this time she fell in. She had so much confidence and so did I the second time around. I think a part of it came from us asking if Jack (Sam’s dog) could come because she loves other dogs and I thought she’d learn by watching him (she did).

I also learned that SUP is really good for dogs as it strengthens their hips, something extra important for lab/retrievers!

My dog was exhausted afterwards (it takes a lot of energy to smile that much) and out whole family exclaimed that it was the best day! I will definitely be back.

I cannot speak highly enough about Sam’s teaching! My older daughter is in great shape (me, not so much but I love the water), my younger daughter surfs a bit, and my husband doesn’t like the water and never did SUP before. In other words, 4 different needs and she met them all perfectly while teaching me and my dog!!! Wow!!!!

I did this for Mother’s Day because I want to be able to kayak with her (I thought she’d like it more than SUP). Now I know I can take her out with confidence on SUP and kayaks!!!!
