Back in 2002 my wife and I were in Santa Fe during Indian market. We were walking down the street and notice these two beautiful vibrant paintings of a burro on each painting. We feel in love with them and waited till the day before we left and one of them sold!! We were bummed. Barbara was there and we were able to meet her. Barbara agreed to paint another one as the one that was sold. We came home and hung the one up in our dining room and couldn’t wait for the other to arrive. It arrived about 4-6 weeks later. We had so many people comment on her work and said “you have paintings of Burros friends thought that we were crazy! Well over the past almost 18 years we have collected the largest amount burro paintings and bronzes according to Barbara. We started our oldest daughter with her first Barbara Meikle burro painting over a year ago. With 21 paintings and 5 bronzes later we still collect them from Barbara who has become a great friend and an AMAZING ARTIST!!! From creativity, to beautiful colors, to her amazing work, you won’t find anyone who absolutely loves what she does and it shows!! We have a gallery wall with 11 of the burro paintings when you walk into our house. Friends ask why so many burro paintings? I tell them that these are all of our family members and they never talk back and always bring...

We both had some awareness of her work, but it pops off the canvases even more in person. Even a bigger delight for us was how friendly and welcoming the artist herself was. We have only lived in Santa Fe a year and many times are asked where we are visiting from, which I understand, but Barbara made no assumptions. The Espanola Wildlife Center is something we take great interest in and Barbara offers a good portion of wall space in her studio with 100% of proceeds dedicated to the sanctuary not to mention rescues horses herself which is no easy task. By far the most interesting active art studio we have visited to date in Santa Fe! A talented multidimensional artist to...
