My husband and I decided to splurge and book a deluxe room here for our 10 year wedding anniversary and it turned out to be an awful experience that resulted us being racially profiled and treated like 2nd class citizens.
They have a complementary breakfast so when we woke up, we went to grab some food. We went in to the dining area, served ourselves some food and went to find a seat, suddenly the short older woman with black hair on staff abruptly rushed up to us, in the middle of the busy dining room and very loudly demanded that we give her our room number, it was very apparent from her tone that she didn't believe that we were actual guests of the hotel and when we gave her our room number, she almost seemed surprised that we were indeed guests. We were taken aback as we did not hear her ask anyone else this question and there are NO signs saying we needed to check in for breakfast nor that we needed to verify our room number before eating. My husband and I were shocked and absolutely caught off guard as we've stayed in many establishments with complimentary breakfasts and have NEVER experienced anything like this before... heck we just stayed in a Disney partnered resort in Anaheim and didn't have this happen. We sat for a moment stunned by what occurred and ultimately my husband decided to get up and ask this employee why she asked us for our room number. She stated that they needed to make sure "people off the street" don't come in to eat for free. I was blown away and felt shameful, embarrassed and completely disrespected. We immediately got up, without eating any of our food and went to talk with Terry at the front desk. Terry actually laughed at us and gas lit us by saying the employee is "the sweetest" woman and he didn't believe that she meant anything by it and that they do have to make sure "some" people aren't coming in off the street to eat for free. Terry offered no apology whatsoever and completely disregarded us. Terry also mocked my husband by saying "The manager will be in at 9am, you can talk to him, he looks a lot like you so you'll like him." We are Hispanic and later when we talked to the manager, we realized that Terry was basically implying that because his boss is Hispanic and we are Hispanic, we must all look alike and like each other. I believe this to be true because my husband and Christopher look nothing a like, the only commonality that they shared is that they are both Hispanic.
We ended up speaking with Christopher, the manager, who was amazing, he sincerely apologized and stated that it isn't standard to ask guests to verify their room number and he would address the issue as well as took off 25% of our bill. I'm thankful for Christopher acknowledging the wrong that was done and I appreciated that he did his best to make it right. He provided A plus customer service, major kudos to Christopher.
I heavily debated on whether or not to leave this review as I have felt conflicted since Christopher was so kind and understanding but the reality in this situation is that it NEVER should have happened. The way we were treated was disgusting and demoralizing. I am a 2nd generation American and have been raised to love this country, so much so that I've dedicated the past 15 years of my life to public service in the Federal Govt. I've never even gotten so much as a speeding ticket so to be made to feel like some bum off the street scrounging for free food was dehumanizing. I hope The Inn on the Alameda takes action to do better by appropriately training as well as educating their ignorant employees as to avoid future guests from being targets of their blatant racism.
I will never stay at this establishment again nor would I recommend this place to my worst enemy. Thanks Inn on the Alameda for tarnishing our 10 year wedding anniversary and reminding us that racism is alive and well in...
Read moreOur new favorite place in Santa Fe! Breakfast was divine and hands down the best included hotel breakfast we have ever experienced. Parking is free and was easy throughout our Opera weekend stay, where the hotel surely was at or close to sold out. Terry at the front desk is a gem, always smiling. In the words of my husband, “Happy to be here and it shows!”
Our room was one of the smallest on property but impeccably clean and well-appointed. Linens were great but the bed is probably the biggest potential for improvement but a minor one. There is plenty of seating, nice warm lighting, custom shower gels and lovely hand soap. The private patio with locking door was such a nice touch. I enjoyed coffee there in the early morning while basking in the bucolic grounds.
Speaking of grounds, just walking along the ivy-covered pathways to each room feels like a getaway. It really is a beautiful, tranquil property. We enjoyed drinks at Joe’s one afternoon. We read in the comfortable lobby rocking chairs, where friends gathered to play cards or await check-in. The lobby offers free filtered water for filling bottles as well as soda and water available for purchase 24/7.
There is a FREE shuttle service within a radius of the hotel. The shuttle driver picked us up super quickly from a nearby attraction, making the value of staying here even more. There were no resort fees which is a huge plus compared to other hotels in the area. From our home base we were able to explore the Canyon Road art galleries which are literally across the street from the Inn. It’s also about a 2 minute walk to a small coffee/bookstore and about a 10 minute walk to the plaza. There are plenty of restaurants also within walking distance, close ones include Upper Crust Pizza and The Pink Adobe. We walked both day and night and never felt unsafe, though we did not walk alone.
We have stayed at both luxury hotels and similarly priced hotels in the area and this is now our new favorite place due to the service and amenities. Breakfast was an absolute delight featuring coffee, pastries, enchiladas, beans, veggies, fresh eggs, potatoes & probably many more items I am forgetting. Thank you to the staff for making our wonderful weekend so exciting and enjoyable. We can’t...
Read moreThe Inn on the Alameda provides the perfect 'home base' and a wonderful escape for travelers to Santa Fe. Whether you plan to stick close to the main heart of the town or travel to local sites, the Inn is just what you're looking for. This place and its staff take the time for the small touches that make it a place you'd want to return to- again and again.
The Inn is located just a short walk from the Plaza, restaurants, galleries, and shopping; and provides a complimentary wine and cheese hour each day for guests. The staff are welcoming, warm, and make you feel as if you were a guest in their personal home. We found the rooms are well equipped and comfortable, and especially clean.
The best part, though??? The complimentary breakfast. SERIOUSLY. Usually, 'complimentary breakfasts' provided by hotels are less than mediocre, with dry bagels, eggs (more sulfur, than actual egg), and a Belgian waffle maker that oozes more and more with each attempted preparation. However, the Inn on the Alameda is the polar opposite- honestly, it couldn't be more different. Each morning, we were treated with true southwest flavor, including chilaquiles, the BEST green chile, beans, fresh fruit, yogurt parfaits, fluffy scrambled eggs, handmade pastries, and more. It was tough not to eat myself sick before the day even started.
The Inn is decorated in a very lovely, yet comfortable way, where you feel like you could curl up with a book- inside, or outside, and find peace. They burn fireplaces that emit a wonderful aroma, adding to that relaxing atmosphere.
It's not yet spring, and they are already caring for their plants, vines, and flowers, which only add to the ambiance of the place. It was hard for us to leave.
Highly recommend the Inn to anyone searching for the best place to stay in Santa Fe. We will...
