My mom has collected RC Gormans all her life. She recently passed away and I thought it was such a sign when my friend and I stumbled upon this gallery on our walk through old town. I took a quick photo of the sign of the shop to show my brother and Dad the serendipitous event. The gallery manager immediately came over to tell me about copyright laws and how I now owned private property. I said sorry and explained what photo I took - no art - just the sign for my family. She was extremely unhelpful and when I asked her to help me learn about a print that caught my eye she asked, “ what do you want to know.” I said “Well the price, year it was painted and any details you might have about it.” She said it’s $300 and there’s the year right there. I asked her if I offended her and couldn’t figure out what on earth I had done to make this gallery manager so upset, rude, and down right mean spirited. Odd qualities for a salesperson. What put our visit over the top was the knowledge, warmth and enthusiasm of the sole employee at the time, Jakob. Once he saw we had some very basic knowledge of Mr. Gorman’s work, Jakob answered all our questions, warmly and courteously. He spent 45 minutes with us while still welcoming new visitors. Read moreThe woman who was attending the shop when we visited was extremely rude and acted as though our appearance was intruding on what ever she was doing on her iPhone… we were ready to buy large but she seemed to assume we couldn’t or wouldn’t. Jacob might need to send her to some good selling courses to learn not to judge a book by it’s cover and to be reminded that if it weren’t for customers she wouldn’t have a job.
