Overall I had a good experience.I ordered the sinconizada de carne asada for $16. The food was pretty good. If you get this, it's like a superior quesadilla. The avocado and jalapenos went really well with it. Considering this, though, I did feel like it was a little pricey. My friends got fajitas, which had way more peppers and onions than meat, so beware of that, and another friend got pollo queso and enjoyed it. Another friend got one of their combination meals and it was good. We did get free chips and salsa. The chips were warm when they were served. The salsa was fine, but nothing to write home about. I also had a strawberry margarita on the rocks which cost $12. The strawberry flavor was VERY strong, so I loved the sweetness. The drink itself wasn't as strong with tequila, but you could taste it. If you're on vacation, I think it's worth it, but I probably wouldn't get the strawberry margarita as a regular just cause I didn't feel it was THAT great for the cost. Service was quick and the waiter was friendly, so no complaints on that front. Food came out quick also.

Not really sure where all the positive reviews are coming from… Where to start. We were never greeted and didn’t even get menus until we requested them 15 minutes after arriving. Ordered the margarita only to find out it was sugar water with zero tequila. First time we’ve ever sent a drink back. Now onto the food. Chips and salsa came 30 minutes after we arrived and was bland with no spice. Onto the entree. Ordered a combo plate to try a couple different things on the menu. The chili relleno was literally a pepper with ground beef sprinkled with cheese. The tamale tasted like the masa had gone bad and the enchilada was flavorless. Ironically, the best thing on the plate was the “chalupa” which was just a crispy taco. If you’re looking for authentic New Mexican food, skip it. If you’re looking for authentic Tex mex, skip it. If you’re looking to save a few bucks to get the most disgusting excuse for food, this is your place!

I recently dined at Los Magueyes Mexican Restaurant in Santa Fe, and it was an exceptional experience. The vibe is warm and inviting, with a lively yet cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The food is outstanding, offering authentic Mexican flavors that are both rich and satisfying. Each dish I tried was delicious and well-prepared, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality. The service was top-notch; the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about the dining experience of each guest. They were quick to offer recommendations and ensured that our needs were met throughout the meal. Lastly, the prices were very reasonable, making it an excellent value for the quality of food and service provided. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Santa Fe, I highly recommend Los Magueyes for a memorable and enjoyable dining experience.

I'm sorry but this was truly terrible food. I fell for all the positive reviews here, and believed that it was a new restaurant from the one that used to be here (Agave, I think), but it seems not. The owner was friendly enough but there was nothing fresh or interesting or flavorful about the food. The only thing authentic about it was that the people who work there are Mexican. Everything tasted cheap and ready-made, poured out of a jar and taken from packages. The tortillas used for the tacos were obviously pre-fried and store-bought, and the enchilada sauce had that slimy texture of jarred foods. The salsa was really sweet and obviously not homemade. Nothing had any spice, or any flavor besides salt and tomato onion. Worst of all, the "cheese" was fake processed "American" style. Even though it's white and might look like enchilada cheese, don't let it fool you- it's that plasticy, waxy horrible "cheese food." Overall, the food was worse than Taco Bell and makes Chipotle seem like fine dining. Aside from that, don't trust their online menu - everything is at least $3-$4 more expensive! I had had a lunch plate listed online for $5.90 and it was $3 more. I didn't check the price of my sparking water, but it must have been $4 because my bill came to just under $15. If you're from out of town and have never had Mexican food and have low standards about food quality, maybe you'll enjoy it. For everyone else, do yourself a favor and walk a few more minutes to Taco Foundation or Bumble Bee over on Guadalupe. Cheaper and better in every...

Would not go back. The prices were reasonable but in our experience today thd good quality was low. My husband ordered the lunch portion steak fajitas. The steak and peppers were burned & the beans were runny. Chips and salsa was provided. He would give his meal a 1-2. It was $8.50. They serve one average margarita. That was a 3 out of 5. I had already eaten lunch at a wonderful French crepe/bakery in town do I only wanted a side steak tostada which was around $3.95. The waiter told me the cook had accidentally prepared a taco salad but they would charge me the tostada price if I was okay with the other item. I agreed. Not only did they charge me $8.50 but the bottom of the salad was not filled with steak but with a very watered down mushy bean and maybe ground beef. The lettuce on top was fresh and the actual salad portion was tasty. I would not go back or recommend this place. We had great Mexican food in Taos the day before in an adorable romantic outdoor cafe with similar prices. I am sure Santa Fe has better Mexican restaurant with a nicer ambiance. Otherwise enjoy the local French cafe instead. This place has a small narrow alleyway outdoor area. Not very clean. Not romantic. No ambiance. We ate inside. Small area with torn leather booths. The waiter did not appear very happy with his job. Moderate...

My wife and I have lived in Tijeras, New Mexico for the last twelve years but have never developed a liking for either the taste or the heat of "New Mexican" food. We stopped by Los Magueyes with some of our family who were visiting from out of state and, like us, all prefer authentic "Mexican" style food (the flavors of sauces and cilantro in California-Mexican, Colorado-Mexican or simply Tex-Mex - not food just covered with the heat of "Red or Green" Chili). Authentic Mexican is virtually impossible to find in this state.

WOW! What a nice surprise. Not only was the service great (ask for Fabiola), but so was the food. The beef enchiladas, chile rellenos and tacos were excellent and all served Mexican style with, sauces, spanish rice, refried beans and pico de gallo. The chips and salsa were great with warm, light and crispy chips and a very flavorful salsa that didn't burn your lips off.

Several had margaritas (check out the mango margarita) and the flan, fried ice cream and sopapillas were exceptional.

So, if you are more into authentic Mexican cuisine at a little out of the way place in Santa Fe (you can always add the heat if that is your thing), then you will love the food, service and atmosphere at...
