We actually are reviewing the kayak launch at Ted Sperling Park. It is way too commercialized!!! It states it's a "public" park, but it is completely overrun by numerous kayak businesses. We were there on a Saturday and there was at least 7 different kayak rental businesses there. On returning from our trip on the water, we had to wait in a line of about 50 kayakers who were also trying to get back to the launch. If all these businesses do have a license to operate at this park, then the city of Sarasota dropped the ball on this one. Read more4-th of July : there would have been parking for thousand of cars along the Bennie Franklyn Rd and side roads if the cops would declare a parking restriction free day to honor the 4-th, instead they had chosen simply to stay in their ac-cooled cars and waive to drivers turn-around (i.e. get out of here). Hundreds of cars had no choice other than to head back inland. What a sheer disrespect towards the public and towards the 4-th which should be a day of celebration...
