Last Friday was the first time we visited this supermarket. To our surprise, we had a horrendous experience during checkout.

The cashier at station #6 was extremely rude. When I was putting stuff onto the belt, he said “give me your bag”. I handed him the bags we brought. Then he started to scold me for not putting stuff in the right order (order he wanted to bag stuff in, according to him). I tried to ignore him by not saying anything, but he went on and on. While he was still complaining, my husband came and was very surprised to see me being scolded by the cashier and said he would put everything into bags himself.

Though the cashier went into length accusing me for not putting things on belt as he wanted, he didn’t bag anything for us. Instead, he tried to scan our items as fast as he could and threw them toward my husband. The main purpose of that, I believe, was to ensure we would't be able to bag everything in time. While my husband was still putting things into bags, he pushed our stuff over abruptly and rudely so he could start with the next customer. Finally we had to collect all our stuff and put them back into shopping cart so we could bag them elsewhere.

This was absolutely the worst checkout experience we ever had at any Asian supermarket. I tried to find store manager after this to file a complaint but couldn’t find any.

We will never bother to visit this store and risk being treated so rudely again.

Update: we contacted the store multiple times after this unpleasant incident. First time, my husband called the store manager and was told they would follow up on this and get back to us. After hanging up, we realized the manager didn't ask for our phone number so it's impossible for him to get back to us. The second time, I went to the store in person. This time, a lady was in office. She told me bluntly that there's only one male cashier and since she considers him to be very good in service, she doesn't believe what I said has actually happened. Also she asked me to explain why I was treated differently by the cashier. I was stunned again by the rudeness and asked her why would I want to waste my time making such things up. A guy was also in the office. He has much better attitude and appeared sorry to hear our experience. I left our phone number with the office.

Regardless, three days after the incident, we still haven't heard anything from the store manager or anyone from the store to explain why this had happened and apologize to us. Now we begin to realize the store manager never intended to do anything about it, that's why he didn't bother to ask for our phone number.

This is the longest review I have ever written. It's a good lesson learned. If we were to be mistreated again, we would handle it right on spot. Otherwise, dishonest business like this store will simply deny any wrongdoing and ignore you.

Well, we are done with this store. That's the least we can do to...

One Of The Cleanest Asian Grocery Stores Around

AFC isn't perfect, but it has a great cooking supply section (mostly Korean hardware, but a nice selection of tools), tons of snacks from most SE Asian countries, a huge variety of chili condiments (hi, Lau Ganma Crispy Chili), coconut milks, soy sauces, et cetera. Their prices are pretty much in line with 99 Ranch (please only go to the ones up North if you ever go to those stores).

The first time here, I joked "this place is like the Asian Whole Foods" because of how clean and perfectly presented the store appeared to be. Subsequent visits have lead to a few disappointments in stocking habits, but overall, it's quite nice.

I still prefer the quality of Uwajimaya over anything, but, AFC is fairly clean and affordable while still being cheap, with only a few exceptions; mainly, some of the produce is clearly rotted (mostly the melons), and the refrigerated noodle section is not at all cold enough and can be poorly rotated (I've found moldy noodles there).

Meat has been properly chilled and cycled, whenever I buy it. The prices aren't as good as the bulk Costco prices, but they're decent. And there's less sad, grey meat than the QFCs and Safeways you're probably used to.

Definitely visit this place if cleanliness is a factor. Some of the vegetables are unwashed (cheaper), but you'll get a week's worth of groceries for $60-80 versus the $200 you'd spend at a traditional American grocery store.

Just don't ever buy noodles or dumpling wrappers from stores without doors for their refrigerated sections.

If you can afford Uwajimaya, stick to that. If you primarily need SE Asian ingredients, Seafood City in Tukwila is also great. But AFC is the next best thing in terms of quality and it's...

Asian Family Market at 13200 Aurora Ave N, Suite A, Seattle, WA 98133, is a gem for anyone looking to explore a wide variety of Asian groceries and products. Here’s why I highly recommend it:

The market boasts an impressive array of products from various Asian countries, including China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and more. Whether you're looking for fresh produce, specialty sauces, or unique snacks, you'll find it here. The seafood section is particularly noteworthy, offering a fresh and diverse selection.

Although it's little more expensive than a typical grocery store the produce section is well-stocked with fresh and vibrant fruits and vegetables that are often hard to find in other grocery stores. From bok choy to dragon fruit, the quality and variety are exceptional.

The staff are always friendly and willing to help. They are knowledgeable about the products and can offer great recommendations if you're trying something new. Their customer service truly enhances the shopping experience.

The store is clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate. Aisles are clearly labeled, making it simple to find what you need. The layout is spacious, which adds to a pleasant shopping experience.

There are often great deals and discounts available. It's a fantastic place to stock up on essentials without breaking the bank.

Shopping here is more than just a grocery run; it's a cultural experience. The market often has unique items and seasonal products that give you a taste of different Asian cultures.

Since moving to Seattle 16 years ago, I pretty much gave up on my search for crawfish tail meat to make an étouffée. Recently, a friend suggested I check out an Asian market. Asian Family Market happens to have a location near the school I work at, so I decided to check them out. OMG, this place has it all!! As you open the door to walk in you’ll pass by many Asian cafes, a bakery, and a hair salon before entering the market, located in the back of the mall. This market is incredible. A massive variety of fruits, local & imports, & fresh vegetables, several unrecognized by me as my Asian cooking experience is limited to stir fry, fried rice dishes and frozen dumplings. There are several aisles of interesting products (even Lays potato chips with flavors not found in standard supermarkets). When I got to the fish & seafood section, the variety was endless. Fresh fish swimming in tanks, crabs, shrimp, and plenty of Pacific Northwest oysters. And, yes, even crawfish, both whole and tail meat. But, for crawfish étouffée, the way it’s done Louisiana, one uses raw crawfish tails purchased in bags with the fat included. Unfortunately, the tail meat at Asian Market appeared to be cooked so I didn’t buy any. That said, I did find some other tasty items-of course, I had to try the Lays Crawfish Flavored Potato Chips. Delicious! I guess I’ll have to stick with making shrimp étouffée.

Always great. In these COVID-19 times you realize other cultures responsibly have practiced the courtesy of infection control for centuries. Produce quality is usually good and selection better. The best part is the prices, the prices, the prices. Best pricing on produce I've found. I was looking for taro root. I found it at Safeway for $7 per pound. I needed 4 pounds. I found it at Asian Family Market for less than $1 per pound. I literally got a bag of produce at the Asian Family Market Seattle for the same cost as one vegetable at Safeway. Need to make Beef Chow Fun? Get your fresh wide rice noodles here. You'll need dark soy sauce for beef chow fun, of course you can get it here. You'll need shoaxing wine for beef chow fun, of course you can get it here. Language is a barrier for me when looking for specific items, however, when in a market with such great prices, I accept that as part of cost of the bargain. I don't mind strolling the aisles. I've discovered great bean pastes and dried goods as a consequence. They have a great selection of organic grains and beans if you want to try new side dishes. I make dumplings with my daughters nearly every Thursday night. I always get my supplies for the dumplings from Asian Family Market. I love, love, love the Asian Family Market!
