The store overall has a huge selection of every cultural background food staples and specialty items. You often can find close to “sell by date“ items for super cheap. That alone is the reason for 2 stars and that's being generous based off my shopping experience here. A friend and myself were checking out and the cashier Jennifer had rung up his groceries and proceeded to just push all the items to the end of the register. It was quite a bit of groceries. He paid then she gave him his receipt and then proceeded to start ringing up my items mixing them in with all of my friends groceries who had just begun bagging his own items after realizing the cashier was not. Since he rode with me it was no big deal that she was pushing our items together. I mentioned to the cashier that it would be more proactive if she helped bagged some of the groceries too before moving on to the next transaction. Like every other gerocey store I've ever shopped. Except Winco which is designed for self-bagging. So she immediately gets rude and This Cashier Jennifer then claimed that it's not her job to bag groceries, and she started ringing up the next customer while I'm still standing at the register card terminal since my friend is still reluctantly bagging his groceries. This was the most inefficient nonsense I've ever seen. Why would she knowing make another customer items join this already overcrowded register counter. It made no sense what so ever. I told her that this was not a good idea and she need to reevaluate her procedures because this clearly wasn't working. She then yelled out in front of everyone at the register, "well maybe next time you should pay with real money!!" I was shocked that she just publicly shamed me for using EBT instead of "real money". I was humiliated. The fact she said anything like that to a paying customer period is completely out of line, unprofessional, disrespectful, degrading, and unacceptable by any service standards. This by far was the worst shopping experience...
Read moreSaars is amazing and more people should come shop here! The grocery store feels huge and deeply stocked with food and pantry staples across a wide selection of cultures from Hispanic to Asian to European. I don't think I've seen any other grocery store cover so many different things so well.
I think the most impressive section to me is the produce section which was incredibly large, well organized, and filled with possibly the biggest variety of fruits and vegetables I have seen of any supermarket in the greater Seattle area. While I would not say it's as deeply comprehensive as Asian Family Food Center nearby for Asian produce, they cover a much wider range of cultures and do a pretty good job of it. I've never seen any other places with stalks of sugar cane. I also feel like despite the super saver moniker the produce I inspected all looked very good and as high quality as QFC/Safeway.
Other things they have that I appreciated included a larger meat section with a whole part dedicated to halal meats and a pretty comprehensive frozen foods section.
Prices were very competitive vs other local chains. I think Fred Meyer or Safeway could have better deals for on sale items but for general day to day shopping of not on sale items I think Saars is likely only bested by WinCo.
If you live nearby I highly encourage putting Saars into your grocery shopping rotation. And if you aren't, I think you could still have fun checking out all the interesting foods and products you may have never seen before. I...
Read moreGreat new addition to the neighborhood! Absolutely love it here. The selection is unmatched and the staff couldn’t be friendlier! For being kinda I’d a sketchy area I actually feel comfortable shopping here even during late night hours because of the security guard that works at night. He monitors the parking lot so I feel good knowing my car is being watched and I can tell he truly cares about the safety of the customers. There was an altercation that occurred last night were some looters were getting aggressive and he did a great job dealing with them and being as professional as one could in an uncomfortable/stressful situation like that . I couldn’t imagine dealing with that on a weekly basis (I’m assuming these occurrences happen that often? 🤷🏼♀️) in such an unpredictable/crime prone part of town. I think he definitely deserves some recognition for his obvious care to keep his community safe and the store rid of one less thief. 👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻 On that note! lol I HIGHLY recommend you check out this new grocery store! You are sure to find ANY ingredient your new recipe calls at prob the lowest price around. Oh! And don’t forget to grab a $1 baguette of the of the yummiest freshest baked bread you’ve ever had when you are checking out! ( they’ve offered them occasionally and you can’t beat the price for the quality! ) Thank you Saars for being just what this neighborhood needed and I hope you stay for the foreseeable future!...
