If the hookers in the parking lot, in the alley or at the front of the establishment don't scare you away the food and service will.
It used to be a good place to eat. Not worth the drive. Pupusas are not cooked through. The rice or corn masa(dough) are never cooked all the way. The dishes are served incorrectly or missing items listed on the menu description. The waiters/servers response is that that's just how they are now overlooking the menu descriptions entirely or they shrug it off that they didn't take the order so if the food is not right it will not go back to be cooked properly or remade or correct the order.
If you're visiting with an African American buddy guaranteed they will prioritize other tables that arrive after you like it is a nuisance to serve a colored person. It's so off putting. Our Salvadoran and our Honduran friends explained that in their countries it's common to see discrimination. That's truly off putting to see this here knowing we arrived after their table did. The privilege we felt made our whole visit uncomfortable.
More of a bar scene where food no longer is their forté. If you're there for the drinks you might be alright. But as far as service and food it just no longer...
Read moreParking and entrance in the back of restaurant since the front is on Aurora. Walking in you walk past the restrooms that smell like any gas station restroom. That was my cue to walk out but I was really hungry and wanted food from my culture. Our table was very wobbly and there was no fresh air indoors just air conditioned air which made it very cold to wait 30 minutes to be served. Other tables were served first although they arrived after us. The male server was kind but the older ladies were a bit rude and gave lots of side eyes. Just as we were ready to leave our food arrived all at once which is weird because usually appetizers are served before entrees. We got food poisoning, I ate more than my boyfriend and I puked when we got home. He puked this morning. I’m still nauseous and don’t feel well. Aside from that the curtido was way too salty and everything else tasted fine so I’m not sure if they just aren’t practicing safe food handling or what but boyfriend and I...
Read moreEl Patio has some amazing Central American and Latin American-inspired cuisine, friendly staff, and a vibrant atmosphere. Given the proximity to a movie theater, I found this delightful place to offer quick services and even better food. The pupusas are filled with cheese, and while not completely authentic, their use of ingredients makes it reminiscent of an almost pupusa. Furthermore, the arepa is pretty much a faux pupusa/quesadilla, which also tasted heavenly. Standouts include beans, rice, pork, chorizo, flank steak, and plantains. The Bendeja Paisa is an excellent platter to share for two with some plantains. A few negative include finding a dead ant in a drink, the staff needing to learn what happy hour is, and the high volume of the music. Other than those misgivings, I look forward...
