I have also beared witness to the long lines at this store. In one instance in which I waited in line an hour and a half, I almost left the shopping cart. It should also be noted that I've bought things at this store that have been opened and are cleverly put back in place. For instance, I bought a jar of Ragu one night that looked sealed. But when I got it home and tried to use it I discovered it had been opened before. I had a similar situation happen with a frozen pizza that had been opened and put back. Still, even under these circumstances, I returned to the store periodically for groceries because it is convenient for me and closer to my house than Wal-Mart or Kroger. So one night, I am in the store buying a few groceries. I only needed a few things. It took me less than 30 minutes total to gather the items in the grocery section of the store. I took the items to the register and the cashier rang the order up. She told me a total of 60 some odd dollars total. So I insert my credit card and pay. Later when I get out to the car, I look at the receipt and the total is 90 some odd dollars. I start visually scanning the receipt and see a $30 rug on the receipt that I didn't buy. I immediately go back in the store and find the cashier at her register. The cashier states that sometimes the last persons order doesn't clear out of the register completely. We waved down a manager and the manager advised I should go to customer service to be refunded the difference because of the error. I verbally requested that the manager, who I consulted with, if she could follow me to customer service but she refused; so by the time I got to customer service I found myself explaining the situation again even though I had just explained it. I asked the folks at customer service where the other manager went that I was just talking to and they said she was taking a break. Of course, another manager at customer service had to re-verify the story regarding the over-charge. Thirty minutes later, the other manager comes back to the service desk and advises an employee to refund me $30 due to the overcharge. I asked for the amount charged to my card to be corrected. In other words, only charge $60 (something) to my bank rather than $90 (something). They would not do it. They gave me the option of an in-store credit or cash--which I would need to deposit into my bank account to make up for the over charge. I explained that my credit union is out of state and they didn't care. They told me those were the only options and "maybe I can find something else to spend the cash on". I was not amused. They claimed that because the card is debit they could not refund back to the card, but I have had the banking institution I currently have for over 20 years and I have never heard of this to be the case. Over the course of 20 + years, I have returned items to stores that didn't work as expected and other stores (i.e. Wal-Mart, Target) have always refunded the money to my card. Additionally Meijer staff told me these overcharges are quite common because the registers don't always clear past charges. In what world? Fortunately I had the funds, but what if I didn't? I know people that wouldn't and this is very inconsiderate of Meijer to let this happen. Apparently, it was my bad for grocery shopping there and it won't happen again. By the time I had left the store, I had spent 2 hours just buying some basic things that shouldn't have taken longer than an hour to buy. I contacted corporate and they told me they'd get in touch with the store manager who would reach out to me but that hasn't happened. This is exactly what I would expect from folks that deceitfully hide charges. I would advise folks that continue to shop there to check your receipts. At the very least this is negligence and based on my conversations, with employees, I would not expect this supposedly common issue to be resolved anytime soon. The store looks good and clean, and that's one star, but I am not down with scamming people and it appears they are inconsiderate of peoples...
Read moreWell for a 24 hour store, I can't even buy cooked chicken in the deli area at 8:03 p.m. As I was ordering some deli stuff, I asked the lady if she would be able to get me some of the hot chicken before the other woman put it all away. She said that area was closed. I couldn't understand why the woman who was putting the hot food away couldn't just put a few pieces in a box for me, but I was told that once she is closed, she is closed and no one can get any food from there. This was very frustrating, since I was looking right at the chicken, but was told that it would not go home with me. So, as mad as I was, I wanted to mention this dilemma to the store manager. So I went to the customer service desk and asked to speak to the store manager. The lady working the counter made a call and told me that the manager would be up here to see me shortly. After about 5-6 minutes, a woman came up to talk to me, but she wasn't the manager. Liz said that the manager (also a woman) sent her instead. That surprised me that a customer wasn't important enough for the manager to spend any time with. Liz said that maybe the chicken was expired. Interesting term. The lady at the deli told me that the hot food was closed, not expired. So that means that if I came at 5 minutes to 8, I could have gotten hot chicken, but at 8:05 p.m. that same chicken would be classified as expired. When I brought up the subject of Meijer being a 24 hour store, yet I couldn't get any hot chicken at 8:05 p.m. Liz made excuses that other 24 hour stores close their delis early also. Well Liz, they all don't. I left Meijer very frustrated and went down the street to Kroger. Their deli was open and at 8:40 p.m., I got some hot chicken! So apparently, it's not important for Meijer to be a step above the rest. Do they really care about customer service, no I know they don't. Last year I lost my phone at another Meijer store. When I arrived home and realized that my phone was not with me, I borrowed my friend's phone and started calling my cell. No answer. Once I figured out where it might be - MEIJER in Marysville - I called the store and they said that someone did turn in a phone of my description a couple of hours ago. I told him that I had been calling it hoping that someone would answer, but he said that when phones are turned in, they go and lock them up in a safe. I thought that was a fairly stupid thing to do since most, if not all people, will call their phone to see who answered. Most times, the person who found the phone usually calls someone from either recent calls or frequent calls. Since I have an old flip phone, it would be very easy for someone to try to locate the owner, but it is Meijer's policy to just go lock it up right away, so no one will answer it and tell the distraught owner the location of their phone. Meijer has some serious issues (I hear quite a few from others) but they truly don't care about their customers. I guess...
