The falls were beautiful. I think this is the first big falls like this that I could actually feel the spray of water from. It was so much much for our nine year old watching the water roll into bubbles, "making a huge bubble bath," he says. Chunks of the bubbles would break away and float into the air in whimsical fashion. So it's kinda hazy from the spray, lots of wonderful water smells, and fun floating bubbles! We loved climbing the rocks in the areas too.
The locks at the turbine house right next to the falls were cool too. I would love to know the story behind each lock.

Read moreThe Big Sioux River is not average sized, it is big. Today I discovered that when the river reaches a change in elevation the water spills over and crashes to the ground in the most glorious way. A guy here at the park described it to me as a "waterfall" and I think that moniker is spot on. The water fell down some rocks and splashed about. This park was spectacular- there were rocks of all sizes, grass, sidewalks, and a bridge. My son noted that the bathroom left a few things to be desired - the water was way too hot. All in all, great place. Next time I find myself in Sioux Falls or just yearning for a good Midwestern waterfall i will consider...
Read moreThese falls are the centerpiece of Falls Park. They offer some great views, sounds and picture opportunities when visiting the park. Although you can walk right up to the river's edge, the falls are a little more protected and rightfully so because of the danger they could be. The park has some great viewing areas from both sides of the river. It was not too crowded during our visit and the people were nice and respectful.
