I don't like to post negative reviews because I think most penners and their employees try hard to serve their clientele. But today, my husband and I went in to the cafe for lunch. I am allergic to milk and all milk products. I first requested if a sandwich I wanted could be served on a different type of bread and was told they don't make substitute "this early" (I believe she meant in the season since they've only been open for a week but they had also managed to run out of printed menus in that time "because people took them as Sounders or something." OK then what about the Garden Vegetable soup-nope made with cream. It came down to a plain garden salad, not even the kale one because it had cheese on it. Then my husband asked for a glass of water. No, they sell bottled drinks-though no water in the case. Oh well, no water wouldn't kill us. But, as we were sitting there, the server brought over 2 glasses of water to the children at the table next to us. When I started to ask if we could now get some she cut me off and told me they were out of apple juice. She then went on to inform me that they only make substitutions for CHILDREN with milk allergies. Well I guess as an adult I should be responsible and cannot sue if I have a reaction but children are another story. I don't know but I do know that not being able to find anything other than a salad that was dairy free and not being given a small glass of water and being told the presence of dairy in everything is because a dairy owns it is crazy when in a park where there are no other restaurants. Oh, and don't plant to take your own water in-there is a big sign forbidding it. I heard later they are under new management so I hope the management not only gives some lessons in service but considers that there are plenty of us out here with allergies and having the option of substituting or having an ingredient left out makes our ability to go to the same place as our friends and family...
Read moreStopped here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon passing through town. The older lady at the front desk did not take our order down correctly for one entrée item. When I approached the counter with the plate to return it and explain that she must have misheard our order, she checked the ticket and responded "nope, that's what the ticket says and that is what I heard her say." I couldn't believe it! I tried to explain that the two items are similar and that she maybe misheard. I was being very polite and asked if they could exchange and she made it very clear this was our mistake by ordering the wrong thing. Incredibly rude and was in no way going to offer exchanging the plate for what my wife had originally ordered and we were to take that and like it. I walked back outside chuckling to my wife and said "nope, this is what you ordered i guess. We have to go with this." Hilarious. The waiter who delivered our food to us, even followed me back out and apologized for her behavior. Based on reading other reviews, I wonder if we are all mentioning the same person at the counter?
The food was good and the young waiter who helped us was very kind, this just kind of put us in shock and could tell there were other dissatisfied customers that approached...
Read moreWe recently had a wedding rehearsal dinner at the Falls Overlook Cafe. There was a total of about 30 of us. We were assigned one waitress. She was a good waitress but for the sake of good service there really should have been another one assigned. When I asked the manager to get some help so that the guest could get their drinks she said that she couldn't budget more than one! She also said that the waitress was doing the best that she can. I couldn't believe that she couldn't have another waiter take drink orders. Then when the meal came out, I was mortified at what I saw. The menu chosen was Chicken Alfredo Pasta. It looked like left over tuna and noodles! There wasn't an ounce of salt used in the preparation. It appeared as though it was made up a head of time and warmed all day. The chicken appeared to have been prepared earlier then sliced and reheated. It was dry and tasteless! It looked like a big pile of paste! I was so disappointed with the entire experience. I would not recommend Falls Overlook Cafe for a special event. I am not so sure that I would ever eat...
