I ordered Das Brat, Downtown Dog and some tots.
Some reference points for what I'll say below.
My preferred hot dog is Hebrew National. When Costco switched to their Kirkland dog, I stopped ordering the food court dog. The new dog was too smokey and sweet for my taste, but that combo seems to please many people.
The brat and dog here are both emulsified sausages. An emulsified sausage is ground with ice, which helps change the texture and moisture content into a more uniform consistency. It will not be crumbly like a coarse ground sausage. It might also contain a binder such as powdered milk. The sausages here are ground and mixed so they're uniform, but show some physical texture when you bite or snap them, kind of looking like rolled layers. This is what I consider ideal for this type of sausage.
They use a top split lobster roll style bun. I find this a bit overly bready for my tastes. But it helps you load up toppings and condiments. Both were over-dressed for my tastes with condiments. I'd get them on the side next time.
The kraut and onions are good, the pickled peppers on the downtown dog were a bit bland or lost among everything else. Both the bacon wrapped dog and the brat look like they were deep fried as they were very evenly colored and browned. Both were juicy, had good texture and snap. Both were about 8 inches long and approaching an inch across so it's a generous dog or brat. The dog is too smokey for my taste. The brat is one of the best I've had in Utah. The filling is approaching white rather than the usual crumbly gray we see in the US. Something I only saw in veal mixed/based wurst in Germany, but with the uniform texture I so often get in Germany.
My main issue is I want less volume of condiments. Get them on the side so you can season to your taste. Otherwise, they do make good...
Read moreThis was a total disaster! Brought my family for a nice lunch. Kids had a kids meal hotdog and my wife and I have impossible burgers. The meat was larger than the bun so it hung off the sides and very small in general for the $7.99 price tag. That said, it was good. Both kids hotdogs themselves were good but the bread was literally black on the front side upon delivery. Sent them back for a do over. When they came back they were burnt to a black crisp on the outside so my kids ate the hotdog and passed on the buns. When I approached the counter and asked for the manager a young kid called over a gentleman who was on the grill and I asked about the bread being burnt and if I could get them cooked less the black crisp and he walked away while saying "No, and don't come back"
I pressed him again as I then walked towards the grill area and he said, "The ones I gave you i know were not burnt." I went back to the table and retrieved the buns and brought them back for him to see (i have photos as well). He looked at them then said, "Thats the way we do them." Interestingly enough I politely said, "Perhaps you should have said that instead of being rude and waiving me off." I have never been treated this way as a customer. I have had bad service indeed but never spoken to or dismissed in this manner. I should say, he gave me a refund though he slammed the money in my hand causing some of it to fall in to the tip jar located at the register (I left it there). When I asked for the owners name the guy on the grill said he was the owner.
Lastly, I walked back to my table where my family sat and a young man who worked there came over and apologized for the manager's actions. That confirmed what I already knew, this is not a customer friendly place. I will NEVER go back there again AND I will tell anyone who will listen...
Read moreInhad big expectation for this place. I had been to the location in California, and after seeing the bar & having some of the best food i've ever tasted I was so excited to try the Utah Location! I live clear in Lindon Utah, so the drive was super long & not worth it! And here's why I am never going to eat at this location... The staff looked like they were a bunch of Geek Squad Staff, that quit last minute & became pooly trained on how to cook 101. I took my order, which felt super awkward. The guy taking my order had the worst breathe I have ever smelt, I could almost taste it actually... We got our Order card & sat down, and when we put down our number a lady who looked like she had no idea what the hell she was doing, pretended to clean up to impress the other employees & ended up taking our Order card & threw away our drinks. We got those back because we had to go explain to the staff that we just showed up. We thought that was the only bad thing about this restruant, we were so wrong. Not only did we wait 1 hour for our food, but everyone around us was getting their food. Sadly, not only did the people getting their food not like it, they refused to take another bite. When our food came out it was unbareable, the egg had a hair in the yolk, the fries only had some cheese in the middle, my burger was practacly in 6 different pieces because they didn't even care enough to place the burger on the plate right. They just threw all my stuff on it & thought they were Gordon Ramsey for making my Burger look nasty...... All in all, I will for sure go to the California Locations. Those never disapoint. But in Utah where everyone complains about everything & there is no love in the Kitchen. I will never eat at Dog Haus EVER again in Utah. Total waist of my money & time. Yes. It truly deserves a...
