Firehouse Subs South Towne — Restaurant in Sandy

My new favorite sandwich place. It just tasted fresher than your traditional Subway or Quiznos sandwiches. It's very similar to Jimmy John's except a bit slower, and maybe that extra time had something to do with why it tasted so much better!

The firehouse theme is pretty fun and several kids were giggling and commenting on the fire hydrant and other themed decor. It wasn't particularly busy when we arrived on a Friday night around 8pm, but I've driven by several times during the day and it always seems to be busy (a good sign that they sell quality food!).

They also didn't yell very loudly as some other reviewers complained about, but perhaps it was because it was near the end of the night and they weren't as "gusto" about their work (understandably). And for those people that complain about them yelling, many other restaurants (Jimmy John's, Cafe Rio) do similar annoying things. I suppose it's supposed to add to the "fun" atmosphere and maybe that's a good thing for serious business meetings.

I started at the top of the menu and ordered a #1 in a combo, the Hook and Ladder sub, which is Smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, and melted Monterey Jack served on a wheat 8-inch sub. Wow. That was one of the best subs I've ever had. They have a table full of available sauces to add to your sandwich, but I'm not sure why you would want to change the flavors at all.

The only cons - I wish they had...

I don't like the staff/family that runs the place. Assimilation is neccessary, try it, attempt to be like other places in Utah. They make a easy interaction of ordering a sandwich feel like a trip to Mars. Almost an alien vibe. Say Hi, Welcome, what can I start for you. Not stand there with a blank stare on your face and then cut off the customer to talk to other staff loudly in another language.

The sandwiches used to be good, now it's like they staff is guessing what a sandwich is or how to make one. Always messy, sometimes looks like the right amount of meat other times it's barely there. Messy messy messy sandwiches, just sloppy. Used to be one of my favorites. I don't go there anymore after the last time. The sandwich was so messy and smooshy I threw it away after one mushy messy bite. I live less than 5 minutes away and it was ice cold by the time I got home. Normal names are a MYSTERY to them. This is for this specific location only. I love firehouse subs, but for some reason as of late when I come to this location everyone seems to be in a bad mood. My meal today took 20 minutes to be ready to eat (I order some cheese and broccoli soup and the smoke house beef and cheddar). Soup was nice and warm, but the sandwich itself was cold, the cheese I could see had been melted, but then as it cooled down of course became solid again. Haven't had much luck with this location. Do yourself the favor and take the drive to the one in Midvale. That store has never disapointed me, foods always hot and gets to you reasonably quick. If I wanted a 20 minute wait for a sandwich, I would have gone home for lunch today, which is a 30 minute drive from my work. Food was still good, just upset it took forever and my...
