Pulled up to this Dollar General and thought, “Damn, this place might actually have its life together.” Fresh paint, new sign, not a single rogue shopping cart in the lot. It looked like the Dollar Tree's rich cousin.
Then I opened the door.
Boom — straight into a war zone. Smelled like expired mop water and disappointment. The floor was so sticky my shoes started filing for separation. Half the shelves were empty like they’d been looted, the other half looked like a toddler stocked them during a sugar crash.
Boxes everywhere. Not on shelves — no, that would make sense. These were just tossed in random places like Dollar General got bored halfway through existing. Aisles blocked. Ceiling tiles stained. I swear something hissed at me from behind the bleach bottles.
The best part? No employees in sight. None. I could’ve set up a tent in the snack aisle and lived there for 3 days before anyone noticed — and even then, I’d probably be mistaken for management.

I almost turned around and asked her back off. I finally found what I needed and got in line. There were 3 or 4 people working the floor while one person was ringing up customers. There were 10 people in line with me. Then 3 more showed up. All while one cashier did all the work who wouldn’t give me a bag for my items. Luckily one fit in my purse and the other I carried. I walked to their store. I would have appreciated a bag and...
