Maine Escape Games — Attraction in South Portland

There is a reason this place has a 5.0 rating. It is absolutely AMAZING! We have two teenagers (18 & 19) and we love to do escape rooms as a family. We've done every escape room from back home and now look forward to finding new escape rooms when we travel. After going to Maine Escape Games, I am afraid every other place we visit will be a disappointment. This place was absolutely top-notch. We were only in Portland 3 days, but once we did one room (Dr Gem's Time Trap), we made plans to come back the next day to squeeze in another (Southport School for Wizards). Each room had so many puzzles and really kept us busy. I'd love to talk about the specific puzzles because they were just so well made and clever, but obviously that would ruin the fun for those who haven't experienced it yet. After doing the second room, the owner, Renee, actually came out and talked to us about how they design and craft their puzzles themselves. We were really impressed. This was my first time experiencing an escape room and Maine Escape Games does not disappoint! Starting with our reservation, the level of communication and service was exceptional. The staff was committed to getting our group accommodated and went above and beyond to fix an error we had inadvertently made in our own booking! When we arrived, the complimentary lockers were appreciated! Directions were clear, employees were enthusiastic and helpful! The experience of Uncle Neds Cabin felt challenging to start but it was sooooo fun to finally crack the codes for a MULTITUDE of games and puzzles! Cross referenced clues added a layer of mystery and significantly impacted our sense of accomplishment when we completed the challenge with 7 minutes to spare!! Such an awesome way to enjoy a group, stay entertained and engaged! When we finished I was tempted to immediately try another room! Can not wait to return!!!! Pro tip: Ottos pizza at the end of the plaza is a great way to punctuate your trip and reminisce about your success! Try the potato...

Excellent escape room, the owner designs the rooms themselves and they've been going from strength to strength. We've done and completed all the rooms they offer and while the latest ones are the strongest all of them have something to offer. If you only have time to do one then I'd recommend Uncle Neds Cabin followed by the Time travel themed one, then wizarding school, Area 51, escape your fears, and finally the one set in a manor is weakest and I believe the oldest.

They mix traditional lock types with electronic puzzles, moving rooms, physical and mental puzzles, and more importantly everything is logical. When you need a hint and get given it it's almost always a face palm moment where you wonder how you missed it.

Rooms are currently private but the extra cost is more than made up for by guaranteeing you don't get matched with randoms.
