Extremely disappointed. Would give a negative score if I could. Please read as this is a warning. Tldr: I spent almost $1000 and a week with them and they didn't even fix the problem.
I brought my computer late Thursday before they closed. I brought it in because it was crashing constantly and I couldn't discover the cause myself. I also use the computer for homework, and needed things done quickly. Figured I wouldn't get a diagnosis until Friday. That was fine, and I expected that.
Friday comes around and I get a call. My GPU is bad and needs replacing. That's fine, I expected that it might be that issue, I've had a few graphical issues so it makes sense. I ask how long and they say, "It looks like Tuesday. If it is in by 3 o'clock it'll be done that day, if not it'll be done Wednesday." Sounds good. I tell them to order the part which they say will cost about $700, a price that I thought was appropriate, and I'll eagerly await news.
Tuesday rolls around and I'm waiting to hear news. I'm checking my email for updates on the ticket, and I get no phone calls. At about 4:30 I assume that it won't be done that day so I call just to get an update. The man on the phone tells me, "It's delayed and will be there Thursday." Ok, I get it. Things happen.
Thats where my patience wears off.
Thursday (the day of this review) rolls around and once again I have heard nothing. I finally call around 2 in the afternoon just wanting an update. They tell me, "Good news! Part is in, they are doing final diagnostics and the computer would be done in 30 minutes. I tell them great and I'll be there soon since I was about 30/40 minutes away and to call me if there are problems.
When I make it in I am then waiting around for them to charge me. They are talking and not bringing out my computer. Eventually, someone tells me they might have made a mistake. Someone in a tie says that if they made a mistake I'd get a discount. Which is nice, and then he leaves and I am still waiting. Finally someone tells me what is going on. They did make a mistake, some other guy's computer that had the same repair solution was done not mine.
Now I'm less than excited about this because I've been pushed back from a Tuesday to Thursday repair, and now they are saying I'll have to wait longer. I ask when it will be done and the best they can give me is, "maybe the part will be delivered tomorrow and then we will have it done by Saturday." This is unacceptable because I've been waiting already for something I could have ordered on Amazon and gotten overnight delivery for. So I ask to just take my computer back. They say that they will check to see if they have my part in stock, and to wait 5 minutes.
They claimed they had it and that it would be done in an hour. Ok, fine. I go back home and wait an hour. No call. At an hour and 30 minutes I call them, "We are running final diagnostics and it'll be done in 30 minutes. Ok. I go back down. They then tell me it's a different part that is more expensive, but I don't care I have things to do.
I end up spending almost $1000 for a part that could have cost me $600-700 and that they quoted me for. Again, I'm thinking that whatever the problem is it is solved and I can do what I need.
I come home and the computer is still crashing constantly. In fact, it's almost worse than when I dropped it off to them. First thing in the morning I am calling for a refund. I spent almost $1000 and they didn't even fix the problem that I came in to have them fix. I can't believe they wasted my time and money like this.
UPDATE: I went in and asked for a refund. They took back their faulty part and said they would refund me, except since they, "found something wrong" they would need to keep the diagnostic and labor fee. Kind of absurd that they are keeping the labor fee because they didn't do anything, but whatever. It's been several days now and I still don't have a refund.
I'm going to the better business bureau to...
Read moreMy old-ahh laptop finally gave up the ghost. My dumbass hadn't backed anything up for months. I was able to bring it to Computech with my external hard-drive, and in a couple days, Jose had retrieved all the files off the barely-alive internal hard-drive and put them onto my external hard-drive, and gave me the nearly-dead internal hard-drive as well. This was a couple weeks ago and I still have a couple months of warranty left to go back and see if anything more can be retrieved off of it if I so realize. I'm sure it's a simple thing in the world of computer technology, but I am SO grateful for Jose and his team's help.
I had to say goodbye to my laptop rather suddenly (they recycled it, free of charge, but also could have fixed it, which I declined,) but I got to type out my last farewell and words of love to it on its defunct keyboard. I cried tears of relief, exhaustion, and bittersweetness as I drove back home with the soul of my old laptop safe and secure for my new one (purchased separately.) i love my puter, all my friends...
Read moreCompuTech did a wonderful job fixing my computer. I took my HP laptop to them to fix a problem with my track pad. I thought my track pad had a major problem and would need to be replaced, possibly my keyboard also. I worried the repair costs would exceed the value of my 3 year old machine. The repair experts at CompuTech quickly diagnosed that the corner of the laptop casing had come apart. They snapped the casing back together, then ran tests. They didn't find any issues with the track pad or keyboard. The fix turned out to be so minor they did not charge me for the repair. I was inmpressed by the company's technical expertise, their honesty and customer care. They could have easily run up charges with unnecessary repairs, but they didn't. It was so refreshing to experience genuine customer service. Thank you CompuTech! I will definately use your services when I need help with my computer in the future. And I am happy to recommend CompuTech to others in the Salt...
