I feel swindled.
I was buying my photographer daughter her first "real" camera. The sales person at Dodd was super friendly and helpful. During the process she asked if we wanted to buy the several hundred dollar extended warranty. Since the camera was for a teenager, I decided to buy it. She said "if you ever have any problems with the camera or the lens, just bring it back in and we'll fix it or replace it for you."
They gave us the warranty card and the receipt all packaged up in a nice little bag and we went home happy and I filed it away.
A year and a half later, the autofocus on the lens stopped working. We went back in expecting a replacement only to be told they'd have to send the camera off to a repair shop and it would take 2-3 months. My daughter uses the camera for her school work and can't just not have access to a camera for an entire semester. The real kicker came later. After she got to a point where she could be without a camera for a few months we went back in to send it off for repair. They told us that our warranty that they sold us for hundreds of dollars was not valid because we didn't register online. It's as bad as dealing with a used car dealership.
I like to shop local and support local businesses, but this store sold me a warranty that wasn't worth a penny more than the paper it was printed on. Next time I'll just save a few bucks and order online from B&H instead of driving almost an hour up to Kenwood. The point of going up there was supposed to be that we would have real people to talk to for advice and support but instead they just flat out stole from us. They should be ashamed of their business practices.
They requested that we leave the warranty card with them so they could have their manager take a look as if they were going to do something to make it right but the manager never called, and when my daughter went to pick up her repaired lens with her friend they didn't even return the warranty card or the receipt. Shady practices all over the place. I will never spend another dime of my...
Read moreI went into the shop today to look for the 5D MRK3, and was greeted by a lovely young woman who seemed enthusiastic about her job. She asked if I needed any help and when I responded with I'll let you know she returned to her list of things to do for the day. She is the only reason why this review is getting two stars, she saved this company from a 1 star review. I approached the two gentlemen behind the DSLR counter and asked if they had the 5d MRK3 in stock so I could try it out and see how it felt in my hands. I was also looking at 3 different l series lenses. The guy said no they didn't have it in store and that it was recently sold to someone else. NBD. That was all that was said. I was open to hearing different suggestions of a newer model, or an older one, or even a different brand if they would have just spent the time to have the conversation with me. The store was completely empty, my girlfriend and I were the only people in there. He wouldn't come out from behind the counter to even engage in the conversation with me. From being in sales for the last 10 years I could tell he just wanted me to give them my money without building the personal relationship to the store, employees, and brand. Nobody but the cheerful woman whom greeted me cared. Disgusted with how little the two gentlemen engaged, I went to go and find the woman again and she was nowhere to be seen after waiting for over 15 minutes. Being that Dodd is the only camera specialty store in the Cincinnati area I walked in expecting great customer service from knowledgable experts. Instead I received poor customer service and was treated as if my business didn't matter to them. I know these two gentlemen do not reflect the entire staff but they were just simply "too busy" to even begin the conversation with me. I highly doubt I will be coming back which is a real shame because I would much rather support local business over large...
Read moreI needed a picture from the 80's to be restored. Whitney & the Kenwood Cincinnati Store were great. The picture needed to be sent up to Cleveland (possibly corporate office/store) because it needed so much work due to the fading. I was told that in Cleveland, 3 different people were trying to work on it, and the final person finished it to be sent back to Cincinnati (Kenwood). I wanted to speak with the person working on it in Cleveland to offer and advice I had for items in the picture & for suggestions on how it looks at a larger versus smaller size, and to see a proof. I was never contacted by anyone working on it in Cleveland. When I came into the store to review in Cincinnati (Kenwood) I had to laugh out loud because the restoration done by the corporate office in Cleveland was sooooo bad & fake looking, and it took 4 weeks. The People who worked on it in Cleveland should be embarrassed by how bad it looked.
Whitney who was working the counter at the Cincinnati (Kenwood) store asked if I would be up to her giving it a shot, and how she enjoyed picture restoration. I agreed, since it could not look any worse then the folks in Cleveland's attempt. Just a couple of days later I got an email with a proof from Whitney asking what I thought, what size I may like, and if I had any questions. I stopped into the store, loved it, thanked Whitney, and was on my way.
Whitney went above & beyond, and exceeded my expectations. She deserves a lot of credit for easily doing a much better job then the folks in Cleveland. The Cincinnati (Kenwood) store is the place to go for your photo restoration services. If it is suggested it may need to be shipped to Cleveland, try to see if Whitney or Andy could work on it in...
