Staying at a 200-year-old boutique hotel in Taos, New Mexico 🌞 The most authentic southwestern experience made better with views of Taos Mountain ⛰️ and a wood burning fireplace 🔥 #newmexico #taos #hiddengems #boutiquehotel #travel #fyp

My boyfriend and I just stayed at La Doña Luz during our recent trip to Taos and I cannot say enough good things about this place. Upon our arrival, were greeted by the kindness and hospitality of the owner, Paco. Talking with Paco is like talking with an old friend; while giving us the tour of the inn, he also filled us in on the history of it and how much the place means to him (he also gave us some great dining + entertainment recommendations!). Paco has been building (literal construction) and curating every detail of La Doña Luz himself for the past 35 years — it really is his passion project. We stayed in the Santiago room, which was adorned with gorgeous Spanish (and other European) artwork and decor. I have never stayed in a more special space! La Doña Luz is a B&B and on one of the mornings of our trip, we enjoyed a delicious communal breakfast with the rest of the guests, cooked by Mark (the chef). That morning, Mark made us a Spanish tortilla with green chiles and refried beans and posole on the side. He also had a spread of coffee + juices, bagels, fruit, cereal, homemade granola, and yogurt to enjoy. My boyfriend and I both agree that Mark’s hot dish was one of the best meals we ate our entire time in New Mexico! The inn is also located just steps away from the Taos plaza with restaurants, bars, shops, and galleries galore. I could go on and on, but I think you probably get the gist by now. Staying at La Doña Luz was a privilege, and we will 100% be staying there the next time we visit Taos! I cannot recommend it enough!

Absolutely Like Home Away from Home! We liked that the historic building is ideally located within walking distance of most Historic Taos sites, local museums, shops and restaurants and when the day came to an end, was the perfect, cozy place to go back to for relaxation and recuperation. This Inn is the owner's labor of love, and is decorated with a fantastic mix of artwork and historic objects with stories behind most of the pieces. Any room that we stayed in was quiet, and the Inn included a secluded patio area with ornate wooden gates to sit in and enjoy a glass of wine or chat with other guests. When the weather wasn't the best during our visits, we could sit in a lovely sunken "living room" complete with fireplace to chat or just read and soak up the atmosphere. Breakfasts are served family style and include a wide variety of choices from eggs to waffles with strawberries and whipped cream topping or cold cereal, or fresh fruit. Nobody leaves there hungry! My impression is that though there are no restrictions, the La Dona Luz Inn is better suited to adult guests due to the fragile nature of the historic property and rarity of some of the artwork that decorates both the rooms and common areas.

Sleep among the angels, in a room filled with smiles, or any other of La Doña Luz's magnificent rooms, is an excellent respite for any weary traveler. Each room and public area of this 200+-year-old adobe has been lovingly restored by owner Paco Castillo and is filled with one of the best Taos artists' collections outside of a museum. From hand-carved wooden doors and cupboards to digging into a plate of made-to-order Huevos Rancheros (his grandmother's recipe) for Saturday morning breakfast, you'll quickly find these thoughtful touches help transport you to living a life as a Taoseño.

Windowsills are dotted with large, gorgeously abundant plants, while the enclosed garden invites you to sit and listen to the birds flutter against the Taos blue sky. Paco's team is very kind and attentive, making the stay comfortable and easy-going. Although I stayed here for a week and never asked for a cleaning service during my visit, they offered and would have attended to it if I had asked.

You are in luck if you are into architecture, museums, or simply smelling the piñon upon the air. La Doña Luz is located a couple blocks from the Taos Plaza, where you'll find lots of great restaurants, museums, and shops, or simply stroll around the neighborhoods and discover hidden chapels, the old adobes of La Loma Plaza, or even Sunset Park with one of the best views of Taos' sacred mountain.

Taos is a great town to explore and enjoy. Remember to call Paco to make your reservation at La Doña Luz for one of the best places to lay your head down after your...
