Stopped by in mid January 2020. I wanted to see what the town had to offer. I was there on a Saturday and found it somewhat difficult to find a parking spot. I initially went to the old courthouse to find a parking spot but discovered it was paid parking. Didn't have cash on hand so I ended up driving around until I found a free parking area. You should try driving around to see if you can find the free parking areas or have cash available.
While driving to Tombstone I was hoping to discover the rich history of the town but my hopes were dashed within the first 30 minutes. I was very much disappointed to say the least. In my opinion the history was lost due to souvenir shops and the like which line both sides of the street.
Individuals dressed as cowboys are found in the street vying for individuals to see their show. You will end up paying for just about everything when you're there. Others have mentioned that it was nothing more than a tourist trap and I would have to completely agree. I walked up and down the street on both sides and it was a complete joke. I did decided to go around and read the historical plaques and learned a little about Tombstone and the individuals that made history.
There was so much potential which was lost due to the likeliness of a theme park. I stayed about an hour or more and left disappointed. If you're in the area then I would suggest stopping by but if you're thinking of making a trip which involves hours of driving then I would suggest you watch the movie. Other...
Read moreWe are currently staying at an RV park in Tucson and heard both positive and negative things about Tombstone. We like to make our own decisions and decided to check it out for ourselves.
We went on a Tuesday and it was not very busy. We walked around and got a sense of the area - if you like both Western and history this is a cool place to check out.
We went on the stage coach tour (family of 4) and had the coach to ourselves. The ride was about 25 minutes and it took you around some if the historical streets. The driver was very knowledgeable and the speaker inside the coach was very clear! We even got to take our dog.
We then decided to take in the âFamous shoot outâ show and they did a great job. Not only did you learn some of the history but the actors did a great job in their roles and were very funny - especially Frank.
There are lots of places to show and eat and very touristy but still a great place to go if you have never been. They appear to be very dog friendly with lots of water bowls around but not all places allow your dog inside so keep...
Read moreThis review is for Tombstone in general, not the visitors centre. We visited Tombstone in June 2017, making a special detour off our route back to Las Vegas. I was very disappointed with what I found on the historic main street. There was very little atmosphere, and not much history on show. Apart from a few plaques giving brief historical descriptions, nearly everything else is given over to selling stuff to tourists. Basically I got the impression that rather than show me American history, I was being sold it. Not wishing to be entirely negative, there was free parking available, though if you have an RV, the lower parking area is quite a steep climb back up to street level. I was left with the feeling I really wished I hadn't bothered driving...
