Coming in for one day it is an obvious tourist trap, but a very very good one. Crossing the threshold of the dirt street or the boardwalk sidewalks you're transported into a place as well done as Epcot Disney or a renaissance reenactment. Souvenir shops, gift shops and Western apparel shops keep that aura going even as you reach for your wallet. What businesses are close to Allen Street are also OK Corral themed. These seem to do well. Staying near it for a month however, impression is that it is nothing but a big stage to reenact a gun battle set almost 150 years ago. With very few exceptions, if the business is not directly related to the gun fight it doesn't make it. There is a Family Dollar on one end of the town and an Apache grocery at the other end, a small convenience store which is odd seeing that there is a good sized neighborhood surrounding the east side of the immediate town. A bank hidden at the west end of town and hopefully a hardware store down a back road. For the most part the people go to Sierra Vista for anything more than a jar of spaghetti sauce. I doubt the people see much to take pride in other than the reenactment. Most of the roads are littered, the cemetery has been neglected. The town is much like a ghost that the town fathers refuse to let go. The day to day rerunning of the shows, same reenactors telling the same jokes, staging the same situations over and over occasionally popping out of character remind you as much of the movie Groundhog Day. I do get it. These people need to make a living. Looking into the history post gunfight though there's much to take pride of. Guess they're too busy coming up with yet another Earp themed...
Read moreApril 12, 2025. Visited Tombstone, been there two times before within a 10 year period. It has changed quite a bit. Very touristy, the actors that roam the town in costume were young and just doing the bare minimum,I even noticed one of the actors in the street vaping. In the past, the actors tipped their hats to the people passing by saying, Howdie Ma'am or saying something to you like you were in the Old West. There was a Sheriff and some women in corsets and dresses walking up and down the walkways. Today, I did not see anything like that. I was very disappointed. The highlight of our visit was meeting the owner at BIG NOSE KATES.He was very friendly and loved his restaurant. He told me he has owned it for 61 years. He was personable with his employees as well as his customers. The food was okay but, the atmosphere made up for it. I usually buy trinkets on my visits but, this time I couldn't find a thing. I love how Tombstone is a historical place, unfortunately, it's become more of a tourist trap. They need to bring it back to the historical landmark it was...
Read moreThe store owners are nice for the most part. Their prices are way to high. It's seems like they want to make a months from one sale. There are no gunfights on the streets forcing you to buy tickets to one of four indoor shows. They say for safety reasons ( b.s.) it's a monopoly between the crooked mayor Dusty Esquapold ( and I don't care if spelled his last name wrong) he's still a frog! And the gun fight owners. The marshalls office lays in wait to bust you for drinking in public or driving to your motel. This town is a trap for anyone visiting, or even passing through. There is nothing for the kids to do, at all. I will never recommend any one to go to and spend your hard earned money in Tombstone, at least until they elect someone that really cares about Tombstone like Sherry Rudd As of now,...
