Port Jefferson Beach — Attraction in Town of Brookhaven

Awesome off leash dog beach! My pup and I are here every day, rain snow or shine. He absolutely loves it and I love seeing him play with his friends. The regulars and visitors are mostly awesome, in the past 2 years I’ve probably had 4-5 unpleasant encounters with people who either bring unsocialized dogs or people who are afraid of dogs but come to a dog park (...?) Overall I can’t imagine a better spot to hang out with all the cool people and dogs that come around, and the town workers who keep up the areas with cleaning and planting are just the most pleasant. Nice little spot in Port Jeff to go and watch the sun set. It is one of the only places left in PJ where you can park for free but I guess the down side is that the parking lot is dirt and full of potholes. Occasionally there are local high school kids hanging out looking sketchy but as far as I can tell they are just looking for a place to smoke pot and drink, not really making too much trouble. I've left my dinghy unlocked there all season with the oars and never had a problem.
