Wegman's is far and away the best grocery store I've ever shopped at. The staff, layout, freshness, cuisine diversity, options, and prices. The only store ever where I can buy "store brand" products without hesitation, sometimes I end up liking the Wegman's brand more than the commercial brand. Wegman's sells a lot of locally made goods, and local produce as well.
Wegman's pre-made/cook at home meals are excellent. They frequently have tastings of their seasonal favorites and new meals they're trying out, again right near the front door. There a are variety of ready to eat foods also. Entrées and sides, bagels and doughnuts, deli sandwiches, rotisserie chickens, Chinese buffet, and sushi. Their takeout pizza is very good. It might not beat your personal favorites but it is still good.
During holidays, Halloween, the night before Thanksgiving, pretty much any night where no one wants to cook dinner, they have hot and ready pizzas for ten dollars. Not a small pie though. A twenty inch pizza that you can grab for 10 dollars with its own speedy checkout literally right as you walk in. They have a front door flower stand, with chocolates, for Valentine's day. They even have a milk cooler by the front door near the express registers. They really know how to make things as convinient as possible for their customers. They have a very good pharmacy also.
I have never lived near a Wegman's until recently. My college friends from Central New York always talked about missing Wegman's. They spoke of it almost as if it was a legendary place in a far off land. I thought they were being weird. Then I visited one of them and they took me to Wegman's. It was all true, and that was 17 years ago, since then a number of stores have been upgraded, they just kept getting better.
I could go on to explain all about how great the staff is, and how many of them are loyal to the company because of how well they are treated by the company, but I'll just leave it at that.
I could tell you how much they are a part of the community, how much local, state, and national charity work they do. How they are working to be even more environmentally friendly. I could go on and on.
If you have read all of my ramblings and praises about a grocery store I'm impressed. I figure no one but data mining algorithms would make it this far.
As someone who now gets to shop at Wegman's, I know what my friends were on about. It's that good.
tl;dr: A grocery store that somehow...
Read moreWent into Wegmans to get a flu shot. Its close to my house so for the first time I thought it would be easier to get the flu shot there instead of going into the city to my doctor and have to worry about parking etc. They were out of the senior dose and won't get more in until the middle of October. So much for that!! Still really like Wegmans. Produce is the best, clean, employees could use personality training. UPDATE: 9/24/2022 Went to Wegmans to buy my grain free Siete chips. They were on sale in the natural food section. Bought several bags at a great price. Noticed quite a few empty shelves in Nature's Market. Asked employee about it an he said they were going yo integrate all products from Nature's Market into the mainstream of the store. He said the products will be harder to find now. Wow. This came from employee. Don't know why Wegmans is doing this and I don't like it at all. It will take me longer to shop. Still think Wegmans is a great store. Update: 5/15/2023 wegmans is a great store. Like other places they are pushing self check out. Less and less cashiers available. I suppose they have to save money somewhere in this terrible economy. Thanks to the disastrous administration of Biden and Harris. Update: 12/23/2023 went in to do holiday food shopping. Wegman's is surely a class act. Everything was beautifully prepared in all departments from appetizers, to meats and fish. They are number one in my book. 2/27/2024 still has the best produce department anywhere. Prices still going up. I wonder how the truckers protest will play out in upstate NY? We will see. 6/7/2024 prices are going up, up, up. Still the best...
Read moreI recently changed my review from 5 stars to 2. It breaks my heart to do so but the store has massively declined in the last six months.
Never enough cashiers and lines badly backed up while supervisors hang out at the podium chatting and goofing off.
Alot of the freezers have freezer burned product. Also finding alot of stuff that is borderline is not past best sell date.
The sub shop at lunch always have massive lines while other employees are milling around not helping.
Constantly out of stock on products (I'll give this a pass cause of the supply chain issues.)
The prepared food has become laughingly expensive. A salad with a small amount of chopped chicken is $10+ for example. Quality of this food also seems to be slipping.
Hopefully Wegmans can make some changes and get back on track. I'd like to change this review back to 5 stars in...
