When you need a really nice, quiet, handicap-accessible, climate-controlled, and relaxing place to go in the town of Clifton Park NY... whether its to study, research, attend events, access the internet, print documents, or just to brush up on some general all-around knowledge...? You're gonna be hard pressed to find a place that matches or exceeds the quality experience you get when you come to this place.
In life, you might find yourself having to go to a library. But- this isn't your standard issue, ordinary library... nah. This place takes the idea of being a library to a whole other level...
Built with performance in mind back in 2006, the 2.5-story Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library at 475 Moe Road, received an award for being built to high-performance specifications. For an upstate suburban library, this place is no joke.
This building replaced the original Shenendehowa Public Library at 1 Wall St(?), Clifton Park, which is the name of the organization that founded this library.
On an 80-95% basis, the network to the internet at this address is steady, ultra-low latency, and very high bandwidth, as is provided by First Light Fiber. There is some room for improvement from a network engineering standpoint, because the connection does have many small hiccups every single day, where some of the packets are either lost or late.
However as it is, it operates nominally.
The staff is very friendly, respectful, and knowledgable, and its director Alexandra Gutelius deserves some recognition for running this place like a well-oiled machine.
This place runs like clockwork, staff are 99.99% there when it is open, which is normally (7) days a week Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm Friday 9am-6pm Saturday 9am-5pm Sunday 12pm-5pm
However, they are either closed, or have reduced hours on...
Read moreMy daughter and I attended Mrs. Payette's "Kickoff to Kindergarten" program last week at the library. This is a free program for incoming Kindergarteners and it was SPECTACULAR! It was a full hour long filled with songs, question and answer, a craft project, and a story. Mrs. Payette has an amazing way with the children and is so engaging to both the children and the adults. She manages the class with humor and love and just the right amount of directives. She explained what the kindergarten teachers expectations would be, the process of riding the school bus and so much more by sharing her own experiences with funny stories. We referenced some of Mrs. Payette's statements several times before going off on that first day of Kindergarten, like leave your stuffed animal at home so you don't lose it at school!!! (Thank you!) She is truly a gem and it is a wonderful service that our public library offers to the community! When her programs are offered you SHOULD NOT MISS THEM! Thank...
Read moreIncredible library!! It's worth visiting for the architecture alone, and the excellent use of environmentally sound principles (it has a LEED rating). But we come for the children's section, where a kid can absolutely be a kid. There's educational toys, games, videos, and free use of many apps on touch screen monitors. They have weekly events (check the website for dates and times) - you can even read to a dog to practice your skills!
The librarians are friendly and helpful. Every time I have asked a question, they have dropped what they were doing and helped me immediately. They speak to my children with respect, and they have taught them a lot about a library.
There's a huge parking lot, several restrooms, and even coffee and snacks for sale. You can eat and drink in the library! Don't forget about the museum passes you can borrow for FREE for the many cool museums in the area that are otherwise $$. We come here at least weekly to hang out, read,...
