kcaffe Chinese food — Restaurant in Town of Clifton Park

Update on former review made when they first opened. 3 of us attempted to have lunch there and owner refused to let us order from lunch menu that we were looking at outside 3 minutes past the time posted. Pointed to dinner menu at 3:30 and told us to order from there. Items were not the same as lunch menu and asked if we could order one of the items in a combination plate...answer was a rude NO....only white rice or brown rice offered with combination plates or extra fee. Since we were pressed for time, we ordered from the higher-priced menu. Food was thrown down and they seemed put out to be serving us, as if they were doing us a favor. Egg rolls were the worst I have ever had and arrived after the meal was served. Staff was discourteous and apathetic. We will no longer patronize or recommend this restaurant to anyone, as there are better in the area, with much better service and prices. No one enjoyed their meal or the poor service. Their demeanor toward their customers has greatly changed since their grand opening. The whole experience was very disappointing.

Out of town guests raving about the food this weekend (not the first time this has happened!) prompted me to finally review Kcaffe. The first time we went to Kcaffe a couple weeks after opening there was a HUGE line for pick-up. The person in front of us said, “They’re worth the wait! Best Chinese in CP by far!” They were right. The food is consistently high quality (good cuts of meat, bright, fresh vegetables, freshly prepared dishes) and traditional dishes have unique qualities reflective of the owner’s background. There has never been a mistake with our order and the meals always delicious. The owner and staff are welcoming and friendly, being able to order online with the option to pay at pick-up is awesome, usually only 10-15min wait when busy, and prices are very reasonable given quantity and quality. Our first time visiting this place. This place is sub par compared to your average Chinese spot. There's a dish on the menu called general tso shrimp. We tried it thinking it was going to be just like general tso chicken but with shrimp instead. It's actually a few bland fried shrimp on a bed of almost raw broccoli with (what's supposed to be) general tso sauce on the side...why is it on the side? The sauce didn't even taste like general tso sauce. Disgusting. We also got the regular general tso chicken and some beef and broccoli. None of that was that good either. We called to complain, thinking maybe that wasn't actually what it was supposed to be. A mix up maybe. But instead of good customer service, we got bad attitude. No offer of a refund or offer to remake the food or a credit or anything. This is the one and only time we will eat from there. However, the lady behind the counter was nice.
