I'm compelled to write a review about this place, because I think they are very close to being a top-notch fish store. The employees are very friendly and will try to answer all your questions. You can tell that the employees at this shop really enjoy working with tropical fish, as opposed to the employees I've encountered at the big chain pet shops who seem not to care. The store layout is good, and the tanks are clean.
I saw complaints about the fish selection. I can only speak for freshwater fish, and they have a nice amount of specialty fish that you likely won't find at the big chain stores. The fish stock changes as fish sell out, and perhaps a different fish takes its place. I would call and ask if they have the specific fish you are looking for in stock before going and potentially getting disappointed.
Here is the reason I didn't give 5 stars. No, it's not the return policy of no refunds; I can understand that. The prices are generally very reasonable as well. The issue is ich. Ich is an external parasite that usually look like tiny white dots on the exterior. It's very treatable and goes away quickly with medication. I can tell you that if you buy fish at a big chain store, in my experience there is a 99% chance that fish will have ich or something worse, like internal worms and such. I expect that, but here is where a small aquarium shop can stand out even more from the chain stores, by pre-treating at least some of their fish. The fish I bought looked great in the store. The next morning, white spots all over the fish in my tank. I couldn't quarantine, because I had no other available tanks. So now I'm treating my whole tank with medication. If I'm doing that, then I might as well buy from the chain stores since they are much closer. That's my suggestion. Pre-treat a few tanks and put a sign on the tank what the tank was treated for, and don't use the same nets/containers from tank to tank. It wouldn't cost much, and I think more happy customers getting healthy fish equals more 5...
Read moreFirst time going to Aquarium village on June/7/2020 First impression is woh nice store, stock verity of dry goods especially all the tank in stock. Then I continue to look around, after 10 minute no body come by & ask how can I help you today!! The worse part is when I first I ask the sale person how much is the Pyramid butterfly!! He respond I DON’T KNOW!! I have to check the price & ask the owner!! I said ok 2 minutes later he came back say is $100 for the Pyramid butterfly. Then I ask did the fish start eating yet He respond I DON’T KNOW!! HUH !! Another I don’t know??? He said All fish just arrived yesterday Ok,,, Then he turn around go grab a cube of frozen food put into the tank. Few minute pass the fish is not eating yet because just arrived yesterday. I pass Then I ask him how much is this butterfly and the name of the fish !! He answer again, I DON’T KNOW AGAIN (2 wuestion Three times I don’t know) Then I tell him this is Raccoon butterfly fish I ask him how much You know what!! I’m sick and tired with his response I DON’T KNOW He also has a very rude no eyes contact at all, un patience attitude and while he talking to me or customers he always looking at his phone. Probably he in the middle dealing with a MILLION DOLLAR CLOSING SO HE CANNOT LEAVE HIS PHONE. Very un professional If he doesn’t know the products and species in the store he working at, I suggest the owner should have give them a lesson, test & teach them. Next time write down the price on the tank so customer don’t have to keep asking how much it this & how much is that.
I just end up purchase a large black egg-crate & 2 pack of frozen food. After I paid I ask him what is your name sir He respond I am Kye. I’m not sure my spelling is correct. He is tall skinny guy. My invoice # 16099 Total amount — $54.31 Supposedly my transaction is $162.00 + tax or more but due to the lack of experience, in patience and bad attitude SALES PERSON he couldn’t sell me the butterflies fish. ALL HE KNOW IS, I DON’T KNOW & HE CANNOT GOT OFF HIS HANDS...
Read moreVery disappointed today with one of the staff members at Aquarium village! Went there today for what would have been my third weekend in a row going there from Queens. Each time I have bought something. I made the 45 minute ride out there in traffic with my 8 year old son. When we finally parked and reached the entrance of the store something bothered him ..I dont know if it was the long ride or maybe the smell of the store but he started to throw up as soon as we walked in. I quickly put my hand over his mouth and rushed him out of the store and had him throwing up on the side of Old Country road. After he seemed to have finished I took him to Dunkin Donuts on the corner to wash him up, get him some water and use the restroom. (apparently aquarium village tells its customers to use the restroom there as theirs is always "out of order" ) As I am heading back to Aquarium village I see an employee outside opening the door. I approached him and I apologized profusely about what happened and he turned to me with the BIGGEST ATTITUDE AND SAID " WELL YOU COULD HAVE TOLD SOMEBODY" I became LIVID. I said EXCUSE ME WHAT DID YOU WANT ME TO DO? LEAVE MY 8 YEAR OLD ON THE SIDE OF OLD COUNTRY ROAD THROWING UP WHILE I GO BACK INSIDE AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW HE THREW UP???? The employee also added that i had "disappeared " for 20 minutes. Instead of someone asking ME if he was ok this is the response I received! For all this little ignorant man knew my son could've been seriously ill. As any parent knows your first and only priority is to make sure your child is ok. I rushed inside and told the manager what had happened and he apologized. a simple I'm sorry however doesnt erase the lac of compassion that was shown to me. Needless to say this would be my last time going to this store and i refuse to spend another DIME on them and their rude unprofessional and...
