We discovered the Comeau property when we stayed in the town for a week of vacation. In retrospect, it felt like the heart of Woodstock. There is a stage for outdoor plays and a huge field (for city gatherings?). In the middle are old frame houses where the city manager and planning staff hold forth. Follow the sign to the left of the main building and you are immediately on a well marked trail that meanders through the woods for two miles.
About half the trail runs alongside a slow moving stream with any number of places to wade in or sunbathe on the rocks just out of view from the trail. Dogs on leashes are welcome.
The trail is not the place for a strenuous hike but if you are looking for an evening stroll or a kid-friendly walk close to town it's a treat. You will likely encounter locals along the way who look like someone who was at the famous Woodstock festival and...
Read moreFirst time here after hearing about it for decades. We walked 2.25 miles from the lower parking lot around the trails and back to our car. The trail was snow packed from a 3” snowfall two days earlier. The trail was packed down and easy to walk on. It made following the trail easy.
Take a pic of the trail map to help you pick the trails you want to walk on or better yet scan the QR code for the map. The trails are well marked and easy to follow. The signs say dogs must be leashed but only one was. It wasn’t a problem for us.
There are two large parking lots. The upper parking lot is at the entrance to the walking trails. The lower parking lot is .25 miles from the upper lot. There are no facilities at the park. I’m looking forward to walking the trails when they are not covered in snow but it was beautiful on the...
Read moreA favorite escape for locals and visitors as well. Take a side road from nearly the center of town and at it's end you'll soon discover why this is so well loved. You'll walk through grassy fields with the town below and mountain peaks just beyond. You'll walk through the hush of a pine forest, and be met by a classic Catskills stream. Spots along the stream are as simple as any you've seen time after time, then you'll find the gorgeous, intricately and gently carved steps and water holes. Note: the center and far banks of the stream are private property, please honor this as well as treating this place gently and with respect. This is not a location to plan to swim or hang out in the stream, or bring food into. It is a place to walk, hike,...
