My girlfriend and I feel so fortunate that we stumbled upon Allison Restaurant during our first visit to Woodstock. It was highly recommended by a woman in the nearby gift shop who told us that it was a fairly new, but delicious eatery. She couldn't have been more correct.
We sat down to eat in mid-afternoon on a busy, rain-soaked Sunday in October. When we entered the restaurant it was empty, but we were greeted by a really nice lady who sat us down, gave us menus, and took a drink order.
Being the inquisitive person my girlfriend is, she asked the waitress who Allison was named after. "My daughter," the lady replied, "...and my husband works the kitchen." We were delighted to hear that this was a family-operated restaurant and looking at the menu, we were amazed at the amount of items that ranged from simple sandwiches to Italian, Seafood, Steak, and pasta offerings.
My girlfriend ordered the lasagne. I ordered the penne with chicken. Both started with a salad that was very fresh and delicious. We also ordered a loaf of garlic bread that was wonderfully soft, crunchy, and delicious.
Our entrees were incredibly tasty. I thought I had ordered the best dish as my penne in an incredibly savory vodka sauce was completely out of this world. But, oh man, I tried my girlfriend's lasagne and it was clear to me that this had to be the showcase item in the entire menu. It was out-of-this-world delicious and it would be my recommendation for anyone coming here wondering what they should pick from the extensive menu offerings.
After lunch, the husband came out from the kitchen and showed us pictures of his daughters since he knew we were interested in the naming of his restaurant. It was named after his 4-year-old daughter whose favorite menu item also happens to be the lasagne. We had such a nice conversation with the husband and wife and we are so happy that they have built such a wonderful, inviting restaurant with exceptional quality food.
I should also mention that our meal was incredibly inexpensive. Two ample-sized entrees with salad, garlic bread, and sodas came to $50. That's a pretty reasonable deal these days when eating out has become less affordable.
I want to thank the owners for a wonderful meal and conversation. Thank you for sharing your family story with us. Next time we return to Woodstock we plan on...
Read moreStopped by for lunch today - Friday afternoon. Only one other table was occupied at the time. Great restaurant appeal from outside and in. Entrance is beautiful and elegant. Nice, clean bathroom(one). Food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. Ordered a French onion soup(came out less than 2 min after order placed) and a Ruben. Soup presentation was 10/10, Looks picture worthy. Quality? Not a bad French Onion but nowhere near my expectations after looking at the pictures online, and SEEing what was brought out. The look of it made my expectations high. Turns out, they put a slice of cheese on top, and torched it to melt and blacken(no bake/broil possible in the time it took them to make it. 5/10 soup (I’m very critical of my food so don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, but not what I’d expect after looking at the pictures of their food online). The Ruben was slightly overpowered by sauerkraut, they put it on both sides of the bread. There was a part of the sandwich that was just bread and sauerkraut, no meat(1/4 of sandwich). Sweet potato fries? 10/10. This was my favorite part of the meal. Not sure how the vibe is here on a weekend or a busy time. Involving drinks into the experience may have you overlook little discrepancies in the meal but I’m a foodie. I pick where I eat based on reviews and pictures. My opinion isn’t driven by drinks and the “quality of time spent here with company”(I’m usually just stopping for a lunch break while working on the road). I rate a place based on food and service. Waitress was quick to come up and serve me, friendly and provided input when I asked for it. Not bad for the price, I’m curious how a different meal would have changed in my experience, but that’s a thought for another day if I’m back in this area. 6/10 overall. Rounding it up to 4/5 stars. Didn’t have anything totally ruin my experience to give a mediocre rating, but honestly expected more from the pics and...
Read moreSo my husband and I went here for a date night cuz we wanted to check out some places in Woodstock. To our surprise this place was amazing and we have no complaints at all. The food that we got was amazing we decided to split a couple meals and an appetizer. We got the buffalo wings for an appetizer. I'm a huge critic on wings because I do make my own and their wings were really good. They were crispy the flavor was good the only thing is I like to dip My Wings in more sauce so I would just ask for more sauce next time but besides that perfect. Then I got a bacon cheeseburger and my husband got the Rancho chicken wrap. We split these and the burger was so juicy and so good. The Rancho chicken wrap also really good everything just Blended together very well. The fries were amazing and crispy. There's not one bad thing I can say about this place it's a cute little restaurant the service was outstanding. If you're looking for a nice little place that has good food great atmosphere and good service this is the place to go. We will definitely be back. There are so many other things on their menu that we...
