I've been to Woodstock hardware many times, have spent in the hundreds there, but I will not be returning after today. I stopped by to buy a barrel, and at the counter the older gentleman who I assume is the owner asked why I was buying it, which isn't really his business, but I told him I was going to fill it with water for cold water immersion (because of the health benefits). When I went to pay, I wasn't expecting such a high price, and since I can't afford it, I said I couldn't buy it. I said thank you, and just as I was leaving the older gentleman said "Find a lake!" which was rude and unnecessary. What I didn't tell him was I was doing this for a serious health condition I haven't been able to heal from since 2021, that I'm at the end of my rope and looking for anything that will alleviate these symptoms. I should have immediately walked back in to tell him I wouldn't be returning after such a rude and unnecessary comment, and that if he wants people to pay for his overpriced products he should treat the customer with more respect and kindness, but I figured getting the point across here would be a little more effective. The prices of everything are going up, but this store has always been overpriced, and the rude customer service was enough for me to spend the extra time driving to Kingston for...
Read moreI moved to Woodstock last summer, into a rental cottage that needed a lot of work and supplies to make it more comfortable and clean. Now in winter I have needed to find materials and ways to protect against the piercing drafts that come into this old cottage--I even found a place under the front door where from the living room I could actually see the yard because the door did not meet the wooden threshold in one corner. I am not a DIY person by any stretch--so in every case, for every problem, I have gone to Woodstock Hardware, and they have always had a solution for me. It is a wonderful shop--friendly people who show a real interest in whatever I need to fix or paint or seal in the cottage. And all my questions, no matter how basic, always get answered with suggestions and advice. When I needed a hex key to put a table together I had no idea what it was called but somehow Mike understood my description and got me the right one. I think of Woodstock Hardware as my go-to store and I am so glad...
Read moreBrowse beyond the traditional tourist shops. One intriguing travel pleasure is visiting the local hardware store to see the unusual treasures tucked away. From San Francisco to Boston, the one that supersedes all others this far is the Woodstock Hardware Store on the Tinker Street strip. Charming, impeccably organized, friendly, engaging employees without being overbearing. The first floor had a plenty to offer but then I was directed UPstairs! HELL-O. Found an item I’d been looking for for 3 years that wasn’t even online. An endless array of obscure provisions. A delight. Get a feel of the community you visit and check out the hardware stores however strange...
