Overlook Bakery — Restaurant in Town of Woodstock

TL;DR: Expensive and not worth the cost.

Pros: The place is cute and welcoming, and the staff was friendly enough. The display case is full of options, including many items for dietary-restricted folk. The carrot cake on display smelled heavenly. The food looked really good in the cabinet.

Neutral: There are no prices on any of the items in the display case. Drink prices are on a small board that looks left over from the 60s, in tiny font, about 6-7 feet from the counter. Manager/Owner? and another staff member sat discussing business matters (Thanksgiving orders I presumed) at one of the few open tables, right next to the cashier station.

Cons: Wildly overpriced. A small 6" round cake was $50. I didn't realize this until it was already boxed up and presented to me (again, lack of pricing anywhere), and then after I paid for it I was hurredly told it was previously frozen and to let it sit out for another hour to thaw.

I got the cake home, let it thaw, and it isn't good. It isn't great. It's weirdly dense, like undercooked or too much egg in the batter. The cream cheese filling is incredibly rich in a "eating a spoon of sugar" sort of way. Coconut came through, but I could barely eat one whole (small) slice of it.

We hired Rosie at the last minute for our wedding in October as the initial baker we hired didn’t follow through. This was the best thing that could have happened for us as it led us to Overlook Bakery! Rosie was so incredibly kind, understanding and accommodating. She was able to bake the same cake flavor and styles for both our wedding cake and Bundt cakes for the guest. Since we lived out of state our first time tasting the cake and Bundt cakes was the night of the wedding. We were absolutely blown away with how delicious they were and how perfect the cake looked!
