If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to play 18 holes in the ninth circle of golf hell, allow me to introduce you to this beautifully apocalyptic wasteland they generously call a blacklick golf course.
The tee boxes looked like a failed science experiment — sun-scorched, cracked, and somehow both hard as concrete and uneven enough to twist your ankle if you dared tee up outside the six square inches of semi-living grass. Fairways? That’s ambitious. More like a patchy collection of weeds, divots, and regret. I’ve seen better turf at gas station medians.
Greens? Oh sweet summer child, there are no greens here. Just warped, sand-infested moonscapes where your ball develops PTSD mid-putt. Bring a shovel, not a putter.
Pace of play? Only if you enjoy waiting 15 minutes between shots while a group of six middle-aged frat bros argue about whose ball is whose while double-fisting Michelob Ultras. Marshals? Nonexistent. I assume they tried to restore order once and were never seen again — probably joined the burnt-out golf carts in the backlot graveyard.
Speaking of carts, ours wheezed like it had long COVID and died completely on hole 12, which, frankly, might’ve been an act of mercy.
Final verdict: If you’re looking for a soul-crushing experience where your love for golf dies a slow, beer-soaked death in a field of crabgrass, congratulations. You’ve found it. I laughed, I cried, I three-putted on dirt....
Read moreThe staff is great. Courses are very well maintained and everything is reasonably priced. Chipping green and the 3 hole learners course are great. Driving range is ok. The balls they use are essentially found on the course and the grass tees are not the best out there. I would just rather hit off of mats instead. Although it is free to to play for Franklin county residents they need to patrol the 9 hole learner’s course. I’m on it at least 2-3 times a week and just seems like basic golf etiquette goes out the window. You’ll see large groups of 6-8 playing together. People hitting multiple balls from each tee, while you’re waiting behind them. The ball marks on the greens never get repaired and it is normal to see people driving golf carts on the fringe or right on the tee itself. I called the pro shop once while at hole 4 to inform them a group of 8 was playing the same hole together, delaying everyone and driving their carts on the green and nothing came of it. I get this course is free and you get what you pay for, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Even then it’s technically not free since tax dollars are subsidized to make this place possible. A dedicated staff member at the tee box and someone riding a cart ensuring people are following the rules would do wonders. Or even banning golf carts. Even if it’s on the weekend...
Read moreIt was my first time playing this course. I played the back nine and the course was very beautiful.. visited the course a second time and played 18, beautiful course. They lost a star because on the front 9 (they had us start on the back 9 so front 9 was later in the day around 5pm) there was a guy mowing fairways and on 4 holes we had to wait to hit because he would be mowing right where we needed to hit, and he wouldn't stop and move to the side. He didn't kill the loud engine when you got close, he did finally shut the blades off once while we were putting but the guy followed us for 3 holes and it was awful, fo holes 2, 3, and 4 then when we got to 8 he was there again. We also had someone come around and ask us to hurry to finish while we were on number 7 because the high schools were about to start playing the front 9 and it was ironic because we would have been done by that time if we hadn't waited so long for the guy cutting the fairways. I don't take selfies, but I did this day.. this was one of the holes when we made it past the guy mowing and he didn't stop at all while we were hitting our shots was extremely...
