My first escape room! I've always wanted to try one but never had the right group of people to do one with. This past weekend my sister and family came into town, and she, our dad, my wife, and I hit up Epic Escapes based on their fantastic (deservedly so!) reviews. We tried Queen Anne's Revenge, a pirate-themed room, and booked the entire room for the four of us for a very reasonable premium.
While I had a rough idea of what to expect going in, being my first escape room experience I was a little wary. In the end, though, the room ended up being exactly what I would have hoped for - well thought out and well-designed puzzles, running the gamut from codes, hidden clues, math, ciphers, physical tasks, word puzzles, puzzles that needed more than one person to execute; well-built mechanical effects; excellent pacing; and a satisfying finale. We escaped with just over 6 minutes remaining and were just starting to feel the pressure as we reached the last puzzle. The puzzles were all logical and at no time did we feel like we were lost (though my apparent lack of arithmetic skills, despite working in Business Intelligence, threw us off the track briefly).
Afterwards we had delightful conversation with the owner/operators, a husband and wife team. This business is definitely a labor of love, and it shows in the details.
My only regret is that there's no way for me to erase this room from my memory so that I can do it again!
If you're looking for an escape room, or just a fun group activity, you absolutely will not regret booking a room at Epic Escapes. Also, I need all of you to keep them in business so I...
Read moreWe have done rooms all over the country. This is one of the best places we've been. We were traveling through Ohio and decided to stop here for a quick room. We got there a bit early but since it was right around when they opened and not busy yet, we were able to start early. The owner was very knowledgeable and helpful. We got into a great conversation about his and his wife's experiences, along with ours about the different rooms we've been in, what they liked from their experiences, and what we enjoyed. We did the Queen Anne's Revenge. The room was layed out nicely, non-linear, and nothing where you felt like 'how the heck was I supposed to correlate that'. It was challenging but not so hard that it became unenjoyable (done a few of those, usually they're the more cookie cutter places). They make sure you have a game master devoted to your game and your game only. This can make a big difference in your experience. After completing the room, he asked if we had any questions and discussed how some of the things in the room worked mechanically.
If you're into escape rooms, or looking to try it out. We highly recommend going to Epic Escapes. 100 stars!
Thank you for a great room and experience.
P.S. Just did one in Oak Park, IL, horrible experience, makes you appreciate a place like...
Read moreThis place was AWESOME! 100% COMING BACK! Epic Escapes was accommodating to a mistake I had made while booking my slot for a room. The staff was very friendly and gave very clear instruction. We did their Legion escape room. The difficulty of the room did not worry us. They actually told us the room was inspired by Criminal Minds, and my family likes that show. We finished the room with about 11 minutes to spare. This was only my family’s 2nd escape room, but we knew what to expect generally and were able to get through it with 2 clues given. I don’t want to say too much about the room or give anything away. If you are a true crime/murder enthusiast, this room is for you.
I live roughly 1000 miles away, and have family that lives in the area. We just recently got into escape rooms. It’s now a thing we all have to do together. We have a lot of fun! I WOULD 100% COME BACK TO THIS PLACE! We cannot wait for the Queen Anne room to open! This is a clean, well thought out, kind, and reasonable establishment. Super respectful. They are all about people having fun together, regardless of if you escape or not. They were willing and happy to take our picture at the end as well.
