UPDATE* A couple days later a rep emailed me profusely apologized and comped me a free month membership and informed me that they were going to be thorough with employee training in the future.
Gross negligence and zero accountability when handling dangerous equipment.
A few days ago, I asked a Chuze Fitness employee to walk me through how to use their tanning booth/bed. I made it very clear that I had ZERO experience with tanning machines. I assumed that someone who assigns these things daily would have at least a basic understanding of how to use them safely.
All the employee told me was that I’d need goggles. Then he asked, “Booth or bed?” Again, I reminded him I had no clue what I was doing and asked what the difference was. His entire explanation? “One is 10 minutes, and the other is 15.”
Thinking the only difference was the duration, I chose the 10-minute option. He wiped down the machine, told me to hop in, and that he’d start it up. So I stripped down, put on the goggles, and got in—quickly—knowing he was waiting on me.
After my 10-minute session, I stepped out and finally noticed the warning labels plastered on the machine: Do not use for 10 minutes on your first session. First-time users should tan for no more than 2 minutes. I was horrified.
Now, my skin is absolutely wrecked. Within hours it started tightening and burning. Two days later, every inch of my body feels like it’s on fire. Walking, sitting, moving, even eating—everything is excruciating.
This was 100% preventable. The staff showed a complete lack of care and basic training around what is essentially dangerous equipment. There’s probably nothing I can do legally—I’m sure I unknowingly signed a waiver—but people should know what they’re walking into.
Let this be a warning: if you’re new to tanning, DO NOT trust the staff here to guide you. They won’t. And you’ll be the one paying for their...

It’s common to find that machines aren’t wiped down after use, and as a result, you’ll need to clean each one before and after your workout. Unfortunately, maintaining a clean environment doesn’t seem to be a priority here.
Additionally, the gym is often overcrowded, even during off-peak hours. With only one or two machines available at a time (outside of the Xpress circuit), you’re likely to be stuck waiting—often behind someone who’s more focused on their phone, or worse, live-streaming themselves. In fact, I’ve found myself on at least two people’s Instagram stories since joining just three weeks ago, even in the locker rooms.
If you enjoy the sauna or steam room, be prepared for others to tamper with the settings—spraying cold water on the thermostats to increase the temperature to uncomfortable or even unsafe levels. Worse yet, some individuals throw water on the coals in the dry sauna, effectively turning it into a steam room.
If you’ve paid the extra fee for pool access and additional amenities, expect to be followed by people trying to tailgate you in without paying. The gym’s lack of enforcement of rules and basic etiquette is frustrating, and management does little to address these issues. They solicit feedback, but you’ll never hear back, and nothing changes.
I canceled my membership today, citing cleanliness as the primary reason. However, I found it curious that “cleanliness” wasn’t even listed as an option on the cancellation paperwork, with "other - not specified" being the default. It suggests that cleanliness may not be a priority for them. The cancellation process was a simple check-the-box exercise, and they didn’t seem interested in any further feedback.
In short, this gym is poorly managed....
Read moreFirst I'd like to start by say I hate to even write this but I'm tired! I have several different gym memberships and Chuze Chuze (see what I did there) many of the days I get in my work. I'm a US Army Veteran who knows the value of fitness and sacrifice. Unfortunately my service has rendered me disabled. These disabilities challenge me daily and require attention at a moments notice. For that I carry small bag that contains some therapeutic devices such as bands and a small roller as my back and hips are more than degenerated. Every time I go into this building someone says something to me about my bag. Time and time again I have explained the situation and will provide the appropriate documentation from my doctor however anyone who knows how the VA hospital works knows it is difficult to get an appointment and they are very seldom. At my last appointment I forgot to ask for the note because sorry it is not at the top of my mind to get a permission slip from my doctor to go to the gym! I informed the staff member earlier this week that I had an appointment in October and would do my best to remember the documentation at that time. I've offered for anybody to look in my bag upon entry and even offered to put a Big Red Cross on the bag! Having been in the military and being a productive member society I know that there are rules and policies however I also know that they're exceptions. I'm 6'4 black and highly noticeable you know it's me and I shouldn't have to have the same conversation over and over again. I feel like it's harassment and quite degrading to my ability to focus while I'm working out! I pay for my membership in full so it's not like you can stop my membership but I'll do you a favor and NEVER coming that place again!!!...
