Stopped for a night on Tybee Island while on a 3k mile road trip. Do not recommend if you have pets. We went for a run in the morning with our dog and ended up with a ticket. Dogs aren't allowed on the beach, fair enough, but this was listed fourth on a sign of multiple rules (see attached pic as an example) and enforced with an immediate ticket. My experience has been that when dogs aren't allowed on a trail or beach, there's a sign saying specifically that and didn't see such a sign. I don't typically stop mid-run to read a list of rules about swimming and not littering. The person who stopped us did not just ask us to to leave the beach with our dog, which would have been fine, but instead immediately gave us a ticket. If you're going to have a rule that differs from a standard assumption of keep your dog leashed and clean up after them, you should make it very clear. There were tons of signs indicating not to enter the dune area. Why isn't the dog rule labeled in a similar fashion? Also, there weren't enough sidewalks in town to make a run or walk pleasant for multiple miles at least in the area where we were staying. We ended up having to run in the street most of the time once we got...
Read moreThe beach looked beautiful, but parking was a complete pain. My husband and I decided to venture out to Tybee beaches after a day in Savannah and it was not worth it. There is limited paid parking and no free public parking. We tried this beach and everything to Mid Beach and couldn’t access any beach. The aspects of the beach we could see was very shelly - no soft sand. We also saw a lot of riptide warnings, so be aware in the water. Unbeknownst to us, all public paid parking on the island closes at 8pm as well. We decided eventually to make the most of visiting the town/area, and were disappointed by that too. Everywhere seemed sketchy and there were very few eateries available. If you’d like to go to a beach near Savannah, we’d recommend taking the extra time to go to Hilton Head. The beaches and amenities there are so...
Read moreOvercrowded and ugly beach (due to world war ll concrete structures right on the beach and ruining the view). Also military planes flying really low above the beach making loud noises. The beach is long and with a walking potential, the more remote parts of the beach are better looking than others located closer to the (insufficient in space) parking lot. The beach could be great if you added more parking so people dont fight over the spaces and removed these eyesore post war structures in the dunes. The drive to the beach was long, slow, and mundane (one lane in each direction). Not enough parking spaces on the island compared to the demand, not enough places to eat, 2 hr wait in...
