This lovely home should NOT be run by a woman named Megan who has the least amount of personality possible, ever!. On check-in, Jeremy asked if we had dietary preferences to which we replied that we were both gluten free. At breakfast the first morning, when we were served a delicious looking croissant french toast, I commented "wow, this is gluten free?" and was lambasted by Megan who informed me "i can't cater to the whims of people like you"... when i reminded her we were asked about our dietary preferences the night before, she just continued to berate me in front of the other guests at breakfast about how she can't possibly cater to all the needs and likes and dislikes of everybody who eats there. I was shocked at her attitude, her harsh personality and felt she was not the right person for the hospitality industry! Why ask about preferences if you have no intention, whatsoever, about following through?? The conversation ended by her telling my daughter and I "You can just eat somewhere else"... man, what a jerk! The room we had was lovely, on the top floor and called the sunrise suite. We did have a fantastic view of the ocean and the sunrise the next two mornings. The main bed was a king size poster bed facing the east windows. The 2nd bed was in a small alcove where the wall-mounted (actually mounted on a brick chimney) AC unit dripped onto a little end table with a lamp and power strip plugged in behind it. I was a little nervous of this electricty/water combination and unplugged both. But because of the wet carpet under it, the mildew was pretty strong and surely had mold under it. Looking at other rooms that were empty, they were lovely and appeared to be newly renovated with upgraded bathrooms. Our bathroom was not upgraded, the shower head was like a wild spray with a razor of water in the center. |The location was really great. Walking distance to the beach, lighthouse, restaurants and stores. |I am just so shocked at the condescending and ugly personality of a person who chooses to work with people every day. Megan, you need to change jobs or have someone else deal with the public! We did get a reimbursement on our credit card for 2 breakfasts we did...

I recently experienced a disappointing interaction with Surf Song Bed and Breakfast while trying to secure a last-minute stay in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Given the unpredictable nature of travel, we were hopeful for a quick getaway, but our experience left us frustrated and disappointed.
After a few minutes of driving, we reached out to Surf Song to book a couple of nights. We were upfront about arriving later than their check-in time, and to our relief, the lady we spoke with was accommodating. We paid in full, expecting a smooth check-in process. However, just 12 minutes later, something came up that forced us to cancel our reservation.
When I called back to inform the innkeeper of our cancellation, I was met with resistance. Despite clarifying that it was only 12 minutes since our initial call, I was told she had already explained her cancellation policy. My husband and I were both present during the original conversation, and honestly, we felt a bit blindsided by the response.
To add insult to injury, we were only refunded half of our payment, which amounted to over $300. The innkeeper cited her business struggles and impact from recent hurricanes, yet when I spoke to other locals, it became apparent that this wasn't a universal issue in the area. It felt disheartening to hear that our hard-earned money was being treated with such disregard.
In summary, while I understand the challenges small businesses face, particularly in tourism, the management at Surf Song Bed and Breakfast handled our last-minute cancellation poorly. Their cancellation policy seemed to lack the flexibility one might expect in such circumstances, especially given the timing. I would advise potential guests to think twice about booking here if there's even a slight possibility of needing to change plans last minute. Choose somewhere that values their customers’ situations just as much as their...
Read moreHaving read some of these reviews, many were upset about breakfast being served at 8:30. It's a B&B. It's not a hotel. Watch the brief videos before booking. My family had a catering and summer resort business for 100+ years. The "dinner bell" rang at 8:30am, 12:30pm and 5:30pm. The guests came to eat. It's no big deal. We have some dietary concerns, and they were discussed at length when booking and upon our arrival. The crew bent over backwards to accommodate us while at the same time being considerate of the other guests as the owners want to give guests what they pay for. The fruits were fresh and not a bruise seen. The breakfast parfait was great. The building is an old house with old house charm and is kept clean...very clean. Our room was quite small. That said, for the price of the room, it was reasonable. The only thing I would suggest is regarding the TV placement. Our bed was a comfortable 4-poster canopy bed, and no matter how we rotated the TV, a poster and part of the canopy was in the way, so one of us had to move. The beach is a short walk (2-3 minutes) away, and a little me-to-you, if you go to the right out of the property, be careful when going over the bridge; several of the boards are very loose and most are fraying thereby leaving hardened wood sticking up. Not Surf Song's fault, mind you...it's not their bridge. But if you plan on going barefoot or letting the kids (specifically toddlers) walk/run over it, don't. Before you get there, you may want to do yourself a favor and download the "Park TYB" app (you'll need vehicle's tag # and credit/debit card number) that allows you to pay for parking (if applicable) via the phone ($4/hour + a $.50 convenience fee), including paying for more time so you do not need to go to the car or parking lot and pay for more time. You pay for the time, so if you go to A for a meal and then drive to B to whatever, you're covered as long as you are on...
