Jans Flower & Gift Shop — Attraction in Vandalia

Went into the store personally to order arrangement to be delivered to my mom for Christmas. Picked out what I wanted...upgraded to the XL for full, beautiful effect. Initially tried to overcharge me. Pointed to the 1-800 Flowers poster on the wall w/arrangement & pricing, ok, so they corrected. Honest mistake, no big deal. Fast forward about 2 weeks, delivery today & arrangement my mom received IS NOT the arrangement I ordered. Drove immediately to store. Told them wrong arrangement was just delivered. Supposed to be a full 24" tree with all pine/flowers, no pot, Instead what they delivered was 1/3 ceramic pot with mostly pine and sparse flowers. There are (2) similar arrangements on their 1-800 Flowers 2024 Christmas poster. One a much smaller tree in a pot, the other, just a full pine & floral tree. Showed them pics of the wrong arrangement delivered, only to be told they gave me a free upgrade. I pointed them to their own poster...the arrangement with the pot was $89. I ordered the fuller arrangement that had no pot, thus more pine & flowers, thus more money, for $99. Then person who actually took my order in person a few weeks before walked in from lunch, and not hearing the entire conversation, tried telling me that when I ordered, she specifically told me they may have to substitute and use a slightly different pot; it would be similar I reminded her that, yes, she did take my order, but that conversation NEVER took place with me because the arrangement I picked out wasn't the one in the pot! How crazy it to tell a customer you had a conversation about a specific feature with them that their arrangement did not even contain! I reminded her I'm the one she tried to overcharge, so she & I had to look at that poster TWICE that day, both times me referencing the larger tree arrangement that DID NOT HAVE a ceramic pot. Then, 3rd person came barreling out of the back and told me she actually made the arrangement & upgraded at her expense. I again pointed her to their 1-800 Flowers poster on the wall and showed her the one in a pot was $10 LESS than the one I ordered for the same XL package, so it's actually a downgrade not an upgrade because 1/3 of it was a ceramic pot vs. pine & flowers on the whole thing. She also told me she would not have me "being ugly". I was SHOCKED she would talk to a customer this way. I expressed I was not happy they delivered the wrong arrangement, was not happy that the flowers were so sparse in what they did deliver despite me paying for an upgrade, was not happy they were trying to tell me they had a conversation with me THAT NEVER TOOK place, was not happy they would not accept responsibility for making the wrong arrangement, but NOT ONCE did I ever get "ugly", curse, or call anyone any name, much like what had just been done to me, THEIR CUSTOMER! I am in my full right to come back into their store to show them pictures what they delivered vs. what I ordered, and not one single person who would see the 2 side by side would agree they are the same arrangement. The 3rd lady said they would remake & deliver the original arrangement I ordered and pick up the wrong one. I told her how exactly am I supposed to explain this to my mom? I was already embarrassed and in shock after leaving my mom's house and seeing what they delivered, I didn't dare upset my mom & tell her when I left that it was the wrong arrangement, so exactly how would I tell her a different one is coming and give back her Christmas arrangement? They then offered to just refund my money, which I accepted. The person who called me ugly proceeded to tell me "THE CUSTOMER IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT". Maybe not, but in this case, yes, THIS CUSTOMER IS RIGHT, and one they have now LOST forever. Not looking for free handouts, but THEY made a mistake, made excuses to justify their mistake, lied about a discussion that never took place & ESCALATED the situation by telling me I'm "being ugly", all because I expressed my dissatisfaction w/pics to prove it! Only reason this is one star is because you cannot post with zero stars. Everyone's experience is different. Here is mine. Ordered a delivery for my mother. Less than two days later, some of the flowers in the dish garden started to die. My mother called to let them know and was told she needed to bring the plant in. She tried to explain that she could not because she is taking care of a bedridden person dying from cancer but she was not given the opportunity to fully explain. She was told that they could not send anyone out (not sure how they can make deliveries if this is the case). She literally lives right around the corner from the shop. Owner did not provide any assistance either. Come to find out, my mother tells me that when I ordered flowers from this shop for Mother's Day, the flowers were starting to die when they were delivered. When my mother called then, they refused to replace it. When I called today to follow up on the recent order, there was no interest in trying to help. I was simply told that some of the flowers in the arrangement would start to die in a couple days and they should be taken out and put in a separate vase. For what it is worth, my mother told me that the person she is caring for received flowers at Thanksgiving from Kroger and they are still going strong. Buyer...

Jan's is amazing! I got married last October and was looking for a florist to do my flowers. I went to a few other places and they were way overpriced and I didn't get a good feel for what it was that I would be getting. I found Jan's by just googling a florist close to me. It is a little unassuming shop but I was very impressed with the customer service. I was explained to thoroughly what each flower was and alternative options. They helped walk me through the size of my bouquet, type, colors, flowers for the groom, bridesmaids, and groomsmen. I felt like they weren't just trying to get my money but honestly help me achieve my vision ( which was somewhere along the lines of drapey, woodsy, bohemian, pops of color but lots of flowy greenery so you can see why this would be difficult lol)! When I came to pick up the flowers they told me I was either going to love it or hate it and I LOVED it! It was perfect and if I could recommend this entire city to you guys I would! TRY JAN'S!!
