EDIT- happened again despite owners comments. Clearly no intention to stop.
Staff instructed to turn all of the lights off prior to close as a way to âget people outâ?
Iâm not sure about the rest of anyone going to a gym here in South Dakota, but Iâm fairly certain the liability waiver doesnât cover gross negligence from the staff deliberately flashing all of the lights on and off, and then leaving them off completely while people are in the middle of their workouts- prior to close.
Honestly its really not a bad place, but like alot of other reviews here- the staff are literally the worst part, honestly would have given a good rating based on what they provide here outside of that. (I happen to like the place but this was something i think the team at Crunch and other people should know about).
Today, while in the middle my last set, someone turned the lights of- once at 8:46 and again at 8:54, when we were cleaning up and putting weights away.
I wasnât sure who it was initially, and actually thought the power went out for a moment, but this caused someone else to either drop their weights while re-racking them, or run into something as noticiable by the loud thud and someone yelling either frustrated, out of anger- or seriously injured.
In any case, someone else (clearly upset but not the other person that was injured) was asking the young woman up front who shut the lights off (it was her) and why they would do such an absurd thing. They also stated that someone else (sounded like a few) got hurt because of it. I can tell you that person at the front does not belong in the service industry, because she just continued to try and provoke the situation. (This is while the lights were still off, and I mean all of them, you could not see anything what so ever except at the front.
Her excuse was a very rude, unprofessional, self righteous and agressive, âI Dont care, get hell out so I can go homeâ, with a very much more offensive and rather âtoxic malicious ex-girlfriendâ vibe- like she was doing it specifically towards a single person there who she really didn't like and just wanted to inconvenience them in the slightest way.
Im serious, It totally sounded like just some stupid spiteful combative way of taking out her own frustrations on that customer- and this is me speaking about a simple observation. I wasn't involved, nor did I stop to watch very much of how that ended, but from my walk through the dark and hearing that on the way out- I really don't want anything to do with her. Im sure Crunch would do much better without her. Regardless of if someone told her to shut the lights off or not- you could tell by the way she did it- she wanted to, and she just wanted to argue with someone about it too.
On another note- the other guy working with the shorter white hair was really nice. This place needs more friendly people like him.
Other than what I just described its honestly not a bad place, good setup, etc, about 50% of the staff are decently friendly.
Would recommend either adjusting the hours or stating that doors close at 8:30 but âlights outâ at whatever time they want because you cant really be âopenâ if your lights are off.
Or just charging an extra few bucks for a night pass. Id pay an extra 5$ to stay till 10:00 on a Sunday đȘ
Turning ALL of the lights off at a gym is just not the way to go. Hopefully someone with a decent level of authority here can see this and make a change.
Personally I think an air horn would be kind of fun for an alternative đ„ł
Maybe turning the really loud music off so people actually listen when you say something on an intercom, it was unusually loud today, I had my airpods with noise cancelation completely maxed out and I still could barely hear my own music over the ambient music.
A combination of turning the music off before announcing the gym is closing and people need to leave, and using some kind of a buzzer would be good.
Or even only use one section of lights? Like one small section that would not put the entire floor in complete darkness...
Read moreLots of minor gripes that coalesce into an overall bad experience. As a local, I am used to businesses being transparent about fees. Do not take your tour guideâs word on anything. According to other members, the experience and statements made vary widely. Please, learn from my mistakes and review below!
-$9.99 basic membership does not include the $2 monthly fee you will be charged each time. Cannot cancel after first 3 days & must wait 60 days to do so. On the 60th day you are charged the annual fee, which does not have the value explicitly stated on the site. I was told conflicting values when I asked on separate occasions ($60 & $90) and had a third employee tell me theyâve never heard of an annual fee and that it was ânews to themâ. Neither the monthly fee or annual fee were mentioned when I signed up during their opening sale days. -The showers/locker room/sauna do not include any towels and there are no cloth hand towels on the gym floor either should you be sweaty. Most local gyms Iâve been at in the area provide both. -Paper towel dispensers and sanitizing solution are posted around, though are not marked as cleaning materials to be used on equipment. Youâd hope people would see them and use them, but most members do not know to use them, let alone realize they are present. Do not expect dispensers with pre soaked sanitizing wipes at this location like most modern commercial gyms provide. -The treadmills are all the same model and are designed for shorter users. If you are slightly on the taller side and want to hold onto the handlebar, you will be leaning/bending down. -All other cardio equipment is just one model as well (stationary bikes, elliptical, stair steppers, etc.) if you donât like that model, tough luck. -Heart rate function on all treadmills do not function. I notified regular staff and was told they do not know how to fix it and that it will âbe fixed when it is fixedâ. I have yet to use one that is functional weeks later. -A surprising number of treadmills do not dissipate their static electricity properly or have live wiring unchecked internally. Thus, it is not unusual to be shocked by the handlebars quite intensely during your workout. I felt this was quite dangerous as an unexpected shock might start someone enough to hurt themselves and notified staff. I was told âit will be fixed when it is fixedâ. Still weeks later have yet to find one that does not shock, so I wouldnât be shocked if itâs an issue with all of them from their initial setup. -The free weights are dispersed in a linear increasing value manner, not separated by one set of each weight level in a particular area and continuing the cycle when reaching the maximum weight value. If your workout calls for varying weights, expect to do a lot of transporting of dumbbells back and forth. -None of the TVs have closed captions on, I mentioned it on my first visit and was told thatâs just an oversight that would be fixed. Itâs been multiple weeks since and none have captions. -None of the TVs are able to have their channel changed and some are turned off entirely. I was told that it is the cable providers fault and they would be there to fix it within the week by a manager who identified himself as such. This was over a month ago and there has been no improvement or update on the ability to change channels.
Seems like this location is severely lacking communication between staff, managers, and owners. Itâs evident they donât take questions, concerns, or complaints seriously, and have opted to save money at every turn by either not providing the usual, bare minimum, gym amenities or cutting costs and utilizing cheaper alternatives. Go elsewhere to avoid the unmentioned fees, lackluster staff, and subpar environment.
Edit to highlight the inability to cancel on days 3-60. For anyone wondering, the annual fee you get charged after 60 days is â$49.99 + feesâ. If you arenât feeling it, cancel within 72 hours or youâre stuck paying the 2 months, the annual fee, AND an early cancellation fee, which no employee knows the...
Read moreJust checking again wow new low score. Looks like the fake positive review just couldnât save this place from falling. People are keeping complaining, this general manager Nicole is a total loser, not able to perform. 08/01/2024 Is Crunch Fitness Sioux Falls the Dollar Tree of Gyms? Cheap Membership, Low-Quality Service, and Zero Respect
Rating: â (If I could give negative stars, I would)
Since opening last year, Crunch Fitness Sioux Falls has become the Dollar Tree of gymsâfocused more on recouping their investment than on providing quality service. While their low membership fees may attract attention, the aggressive sales process feels pushy and off-putting, much like the experience of navigating through a cluttered Dollar Store aisle. Itâs clear theyâre desperate to boost their numbers, even if it means sacrificing customer satisfaction.
The management here isnât just unfriendly; theyâre downright disrespectful and even racist. When I raised concerns about treadmill problems, the club manager, Nichole Cloud, responded by canceling my membership instead of addressing the issue. Nichole Cloud, who failed miserably in her last job in the financial industry, seems to be repeating the same mistakes here. This wasn't an isolated incident; their customer service is as cheap and low-quality as the products youâd find in a Dollar Storeâbasically just "hello and goodbye," treating everyone like a walking wallet rather than valued members.
I have taken my complaints to the Crunch management team, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and the South Dakota Consumer Protection Bureau. The State Attorney even sent them letters. Instead of addressing the situation, their solution was to have someone, or perhaps an employee's family member, write a review questioning my integrity.
If youâve experienced similar issues, I strongly recommend filing a complaint with the South Dakota Consumer Protection Bureau. You can also try addressing your concerns directly to the Crunch leadership teamâgood luck with that! Please see the attached image for more information on how to file a complaint.
Is Crunch Fitness Sioux Falls really aiming to be the Dollar Tree of gyms, where cheap membership comes with low-quality service and a complete lack of respect? If you're on a budget, Dollar Tree next store offers more value than Crunch Fitness Sioux Falls. Thereâs no need for more Dollar Tree-style options side by side in...
