Edit: after putting in a complaint about this through their survey page, the manager followed up and called me. They agreed with me that enployees shouldnt be talking to their coworkers and customers that way and said they would address it. Review has risen back to 5 stars like a Phoenix. My usual problems with businesses is that they offer to just try to make me happy rather than saying they will address a problem. This always gets me because half my concern most of the time is that there is an issue that other customers are experiencing who just wont speak up like I will and what about them. This manager passed that test. Bravo.
Old review: Been coming here for years to shop and donate and never really had a complaint until today. Stopped by today to donate a box of curtains, towels and blankets. They were really busy so I brought the box over and was speaking with one of the young men who was walking something over from the car next to me, seeing where he wanted me to place it and if he had any questions. All of a sudden an older man with lighter hair inside the building yells at me, interrupting my conversation with the young man who was being helpful "WHATS INSIDE?" I was taken aback, but I replied "Its towels and blankets." , then he starts yelling at the kid "YOU NEED TO CHECK INSIDE ANY SEALED BOXES" Thing is, box WASNT sealed, it just had the flaps folded over and second, he didnt have an opportunity because this guy started yelling at the two of us while we were discussing the contents and where he wanted me to place it so he could check it. Heres the thing, you shouldn't have any employees who talk to donators customers or co-workers in that way period. Theres no excuse for it. Second, even if I understood his concern he was completely in the wrong because he started barking accusations at me and orders at this young man while we were actually discussing whatever his concerns were and doing it in an actual civil manner, the way it should be done. I've seen this kind of person before whether a co-worker or a boss who just gets off on yelling at people and accusing them of things they didn't do for no reason and creating stories in their head about how people are doing things wrong because of whatever problem they have. This person either needs to be retrained or let go. All the rest of the crew there who have ever received a donation form me or helped me shop need a raise and promotion because they are dealing with the public and each other in the way that people are supposed...
Read moreWhile it's true that all Savers are pretty much the same, Savers rules, so that's a compliment and this one is particularly cool. The one in West Roxbury is also stellar, but it's far. If you're out that way, def. check it out. I got props here for photo shoots, such as a long, blonde wig (!), tons of eclectic sunglasses, and accessories galore. OK, back to this one. It's huge and extremely organized. It's clear that the employees love their jobs, as well as Halloween. A few years ago, the Halloween section was absolutely fantastic. It looked like a movie set. I hope this artistry is still at work. Sometimes a trip to Savers is overwhelming. Give yourself plenty of time. Get a cart. Yes, they're way too big, but it's necessary. The clothing is organized, but keep your eyes open for a misplaced shirt or skirt. Ensure you check your wanted garments for wear. No, I'm not suggesting the clothes are sketchy. You just don't wanna ruin your mood by noticing a stain when you get home. I know I'm ignoring the furniture/home goods section. I wasn't super impressed. That's one of the great aspects of thrift stores; since they're always changing, you don't know what you'll find. Back to clothes before I cease pontificating. Make sure you check out the belt/hat section. There's a chance you may find a funky purse, as I did. Don't poop out at the finish. After you've gone through the "Would I really wear this?" stage, try everything on. BTW, I don't remember the dressing room being gross. I did have to return a few things; total pain in the arse. Yeah, not everyone loves their job here. Be sure to check out the men's section. Their clothes are great, too! I noticed old school "GAP" hats-the coolest. Just make sure you clean...
Read moreAlthough they strive to LOOK like a non-profit organization, Savers is a FOR-PROFIT THRIFT STORE CHAIN.
Edit: they’re now selling USED items from Dollar Tree for more than Dollar Tree sells them for!? In my pics you can see some used, damaged Dollar Tree items that for $1.49 and $2.49 at Saver’s which were purchased at Dollar Tree brand new for $1.25.
Also a lot of the items smelled of mold and pee. You definitely don’t want that going into your home. Even with Tuesday’s 30% off for Seniors it’s just cheaper to shop at regular retail stores. Savers is selling USED ITEMS FOR MORE THAN NEW RETAIL PRICES.
I’ve been a Savers shopper for many years and it used to be great! Something changed. Now even with their discounts I can’t see myself paying $19.99 for USED jeans with damage that sell for $10 with no damage on eBay.
Honestly, eBay & Poshmark are about 40-50% cheaper on most things, especially clothing & accessories.
I think they forgot their items get delivered there as free to them, and the majority have damage of some kind which is why it’s there.
You can’t charge $20 for a purse that has big holes in it. And, items are hung up with clips that cause permanent damage too. A cute leather purse had a big gouge from the hanger clip. (Try hanging by the chain?)
The jewelry is cute but who would pay $2.99 for used earrings that already turned green? COME ON!? And no one is going to purchase a used, damaged AND fake MK purse for $40. It’s just not gonna happen.
You can find the occasional treasure but it’s few & far between. It’s also blistering hot in there, very stuffy, the air is close but it’s always been that way. If they lower their prices by at least 40%...
