MJR Westland Grand Cinema 16 — Attraction in Westland

Never had a bad experience until today. The worker at the concession counter, Ava was very rude and impatient. It was me, my 3 children and my little cousin ordering. All of the kids got the kid pck and I got the large popcorn combo. I got the kid packs from her and took the kids to their seats since I have 2 smaller children that I had to help carry their items and wouldn’t be able to carry my popcorn too. I get back to the counter and ask for my popcorn. Ava told me to my face that she knows she handed me my popcorn with a very nasty tone as if I would steal popcorn. All of the kids literally had their own popcorn so what did I do? Take a large popcorn and eat it in the 5mins it took me to seat the kids? So I told her its literally a camera right over her head so to pull the footage. I guess she didn’t want to bring attention to her rudeness so she just made me “another” popcorn (I honestly don’t think anybody stole it from the counter I just think she forgot she never passed it to me as she did give me my drink, all of the kid packs and 4 cheeses). I never really have issues here but I don’t appreciate spending almost $100 in one day at an establishment and then to basically be told I’m lying about something like popcorn.

June 9th 2024 Mya/Ava whatever her name is strikes again. So unprofessional. My son and I went to see a movie today and I tell him to tell the cashier what he wants. Before he can get it out of his mouth she kept cutting him off and saying “will that be all”. She literally had a non timid 11yr old tripping over his words by rushing him like she did us before on top of the other rude stuff. I come to this theater often (twice this month so far) and to know that MJR continues to employ someone who is so casually rude and knows nothing about customer service is silly. If she was one of my employees I would fire her. I work with adults though that know how to maintain positive attitudes this girl must be a child who mjr enjoys having because her display of unprofessionalism is very weird. I remained professional today but if I run into her again and she talks to my child the way that she did today I will be addressing it with management in real time and not through a review. It’s like all of the other employees are polite literally except this girl. Please make the choice...

"It's more fun at MJR"

I've come here over the years, I don't have much time to see movies anymore though unfortunately. However, last night Sunday 11/3 at 7pm I came to see a movie, and I am absolutely flabbergasted and disgusted at the state of this theater.

First, the actual location is a nice building. It's almost always empty when I'm used to going on Saturday morning in the past, but last night was a full house without an empty seat. I truly did not realize how ghetto it got here, there was a group of 6-10 people behind me who talked the entire movie and laughed during every quiet part and ruined every moment they could , they threw things into the rows in front of them including their full drink, the middleish of the theater wouldn't stop talking, someone near the very front moaned as loud as they could and kept screaming daddy throughout the movie as well as shining his flashlight on screen constantly, and somebody back row would put their hands in front of the screen during.

Now, I managed a theater of another chain back in the day, I know how easy it is to kick out people who are disturbing others.. I just never see any staff at this location and they seem like they don't care. I am absolutely disgusted this is something that is allowed to go on despite being reported, and my wife was absolutely furious and I am most upset on her behalf. I'd been loyal to this location for a few years the times I came to see movies, never again. Wasted $40 last night to come to a ghetto circus act with everyone...

MJR Westland has been my favorite theater for years. We go to the movies at least once a month (sometimes more depending on what's showing) and up until recent months we've always come here.

I don't know if it's a coincidence or a direct result but it seems like ever since they updated one of the auditoriums to Laser Ultra they've been ignoring upkeep issues with every other part of the theater.

While the Laser Ultra theater is pretty (we saw one movie in it...it's nothing like the IMAX it's trying to be and frankly not worth the ticket price increase). In some cases since the build we've been unable to find tickets for new releases in the regular theaters - not because the showing is sold out but simply because they're ONLY showing it in Laser Ultra on opening weekend. Rather than pay more money for little to no upgraded experience we've gone to Emagine Canton instead. Now, it's been literal years since I stepped foot in an Emagine, but it was a really nice experience.

And whether that Laser Ultra upgrade took too much of MJR Westland's repair budget or some other reason: overall wear and tear is definitely starting to show on this location. When we were there this weekend my seat was tilted to the right and the recline feature was broken on the seat. The lights over the stalls in the South Women's restroom have also been out for the past 3 weeks (as in, we saw a movie there 3 weeks ago and another movie there this weekend...and those same lights in the Women's restroom were STILL out). I really hope that in 2025 they're able to fix everything because if it doesn't improve it's looking like I might as well just use my membership renewal funds to sign up for...
