I ordered the chicken sandwich with slaw & curry sauce & gotta say, this is one of if not the best chicken sandwich I've had. It rivals stuff I've had in the States. The portion size is very American (massive), so it will sure fill you up (& probably give you cardiac arrest later on). The chicken was perfectly crispy & very flavorful with the curry sauce option. The bun was soft but toasty & the slaw, sauce & cheese all add a touch of creaminess to everything. The acidity from both the slaw & the pickles helps cut through some of the richness though it could have used a bit more acidity to balance out the flavor even more, imo. It was kinda messy to eat with how big & saucy it was, but it was finger-licking good so all worth it. I'd say that this is a lot less heavy-handed on the salt than the usual chicken sandwiches you'd find in the States (honestly a good thing). I personally found the seasoning to be at the perfect sweet spot where you can enjoy it on its own or choose to eat it with additional condiments (they have ketchup & chili sauce at every table).
I also had a bite of some of the side dishes that my friends ordered. The fries were really crispy & well-seasoned, but the chicken tenders were honestly not that great. The latter was just kinda dry & bland. I did not notice it in the sandwich itself cuz of how saucy it was, but the actual chicken meat itself was not juicy at all. It wasn't terribly dry either though. Most likely the lack of seasoning & any real flavor kinda made the texture issue glaring. Probably go for the sauced-up versions if you're gonna go for the tendies.
All in all, really enjoyed my first experience here. Good vibe, good food, good service. The only real downside is it's kinda pricey & I did not appreciate the 10K parking fee on a bicycle (Tho I get it cuz it's District 1 but still). Not a place I would come back to often (cuz ouch my wallet), but definitely a worthwhile place to visit if you're craving a good...
Read moreI didn’t take any pictures, but this restaurant is average and not really match price and quality at my point of view. Restaurant itself is good but feels like some piece is missing:)
It’s quite expensive in comparison to other good places with relatively good burgers out there, but do you will go you will not probably be disappointed, I don’t know about drinks, quality but burger was fine.
What I would say to the owner is the menu and service process have to be enhanced because current one is not really good from the customer site from my perspective because when you order you have to use this an electronic menu and you have to confirm your order with a button, which is kind of Made me uncomfortable. If I just don’t want to make this sign transaction or something and also menu itself was structured quiet unusual to me. I don’t remember what exactly was the feeling.
At the burger cost there is no french fries served along site burgers and this is probably one of the most disappointing things for me and you don’t have a combo too. You know save some money if you want to have this set regular one with french fries and Coke and burger and it doesn’t seem to be fair for the price given.
Burgers themselves are quiet massive so if you enjoy big burgers, this is your go to destination, but as for me, it was not really easy to eat the burger and it was really messy and there are gloves provided with burgers I had all the napkins used because I had to make something with it.
So that’s why I put 3/5 and if something will change with the time, I really willing to change...
Read moreWell done, Mad Roosta. Located on the third floor above Blanchy’s (formerly Blanchy's Tash), I have fond memories of consuming bottles of Snow Leopard vodka while jamming to DJ Herby Kingston’s beats and mingling with Saigon’s hottest crowd. That type of nightlife doesn’t exist in Vietnam anymore, but the memory lives on.
I’ve been reluctant to visit Mad Roosta because of their marketing, which promotes gratuitous amounts of cheese to the point of diabetic illness. However, I decided to try the restaurant and see if they would moderate the toppings on my burger, and I was not disappointed.
They followed my instructions perfectly. The bacon was grill-cooked, not flash-fried, and the patty was delicious with a good mixture of ground beef and a true charcoal taste. Most importantly, it wasn’t drowning in melted cheese, which would have likely forced me to abstain.
The chef cuts the burger for you unless you request otherwise. The meal was decent, and the service was good.
One sticking point: the restaurant hands a tablet to the customer to order. It’s clunky, tiresome, and it took several tries to communicate my preferences in the special order section. It was so frustrating that I ended up typing my special preference into my phone and showing it to the staff. Sometimes technology doesn’t help. I suggest they donate the tablets to a Cambodian orphan school and revert to paper (-1 point).
Overall, it's a great place with great memories and great food, but a terrible ordering system. 4/5 stars. I will be back if I ever...
