I'm not used to these small country towns. Considering the number of hotels and their obvious occupancy, I think they could try a little harder. This hotel offered me room 2. I refused it because it stank of mold. I Actually asked about mold when I booked so clearly they refuse to acknowledge how dangerous mold is to some of us. She (the receptionist) told me "no other rooms" but when the woman saw I was about to cancel and leave, magically room 17 was instantly available. No bedside lamps, and thankfully I am moving and I actually packed a lamp so I used my own in the room. Like the rest of the reviews in town.. rudimentary, aged, minimally cared for and a bed that feels more like a few blankets on a wood palate than a decent mattress. I'm a larger man.. 5x size. The toilet made wiping my backside quite the acrobatic endeavor. The headache I have now is quite annoying all thanks to what smells like the world's worst air freshener (probably to try and cover up worse smells). Honestly, if you can find an alternative route and avoid this town entirely, then do it. Perhaps this is called angels rest because the angels turn up during the night to take your soul after the mold and chemicals kill you. Your body will probably decompose quite early as the small AC barely cools anything down. I did take pictures to show what Im talking about but I am scared to use their local wifi and instead using my own hotspot. I'll...
Read moreThere are dozens of motels around the hot spring baths in Moree but not many that are pet friendly. So the Angels Rest Motel on Warialda Street was a great find for us. Proudly three-star, the hotel was well run, quiet and convenient for the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre round the corner and only 20 minutes walk from the centre of town. We had wanted to walk Harry through the riverside parks but there were lots of “No dogs” notices around, which locals seemed to ignore. Our room was large and reasonably comfortable, though a little tired. It was dog-friendly and had a curtain shower that would be a boon for disabled guests. The TV was quite small and there weren’t enough power outlets in an age when multiple digital devices need charging overnight – including Harry’s dog tracker. But otherwise, the price was in line with surrounding motels and the manager seemed always at hand and helpful. The neighbourhood is a bit down-at-heel but so is much of Moree itself. I’ve never heard anyone describe Moree as charming, though it is a useful place to visit for anyone wanting to see the real rural Australia. In summary, a...
