Advertised as a 19th century building with rustic rooms and close to transportation links and only a short walk to Salzburg old town caught our eye.|Our room, 31, on the third floor at the back of the property was basic and tired in need of modernisation. Still had the old worming toilet in the bathroom which I find unpleasant to say the least. Room was very warm even with the window open. A pedestal fan is supplied which helps and a fridge to keep those drinks cold. WiFi was ok but could only find 1 English speaking TV channel (Bloomberg) which was quite boring. Room serviced daily. Would have liked tea and coffee in the room but we knew this was the case when booking. Drinks and snacks are available at reception for a charge.|Breakfast is standard continental buffet which was ample but nothing special. For tea drinkers there is a selection of different brews but no English Breakfast Tea. The closest I could find was Darjeeling.|Was a little concerned about security as we were handed the key to our room from the 24 hr reception even though we had not met that person before and would not have been offended if I was asked for ID the first time. Baggage storage is the lobby which again isn’t secure and just watched over by reception.|For those visiting Salzburg to see the sights, the hotel sells the Salzburg Card which we found very good value giving free entry to most places as well as free public transport which is so easy to understand and runs like clockwork.|A pleasant stay although basic...
Read moreAccommodation in Salzburg is expensive so I chose this hotel as a lower cost option as it was close to the station. My first impressions weren’t great: an erotic shop on the opposite side of the street in a little bit seedy residential neighbourhood. I had a large room in the annex, old fashioned but with a newly renovated bathroom. There was a small fridge but no bottles of water and a kettle - but no cups, coffee or tea bags. The man at reception was helpful and gave me a map of the city and directions to the sights. ||Instead of getting a plastic key card, you are given a chunky brass key and a little plasticky metal breakfast token. The key situation meant that you could hear people banging doors as they tried to open and lock them. ||It was 1 or 2° overnight when I stayed and my room was really cold as the radiators were barely on. I was kindly brought an electric fan heater. The continental breakfast buffet was really good with lots of choices. ||Hotel is a 10-15 mins walk to the Old Town and 30 mins to the castle. You pass Mirabell palace and...
Read moreThis place is close to the train and walking distance to the sites, but that’s about all I can say that’s positive about this place. Arrived late after a 6 hour train ride to find the trash in the bathroom stuffed with dirty diapers and food. There was hair all over the bathroom and the beds, the floor was filthy, and there was a left behind dirty sock. I informed the gentleman at the front desk that our room needed proper cleaning and asked for maid service in the morning. Our room was not cleaned until three days later. The shower is open with no slope in floor so that water runs everywhere. The bathroom door was warped from water damage. The towels were stained and appeared dirty. When we requested new towels from the front desk, the woman rudely responded and we had to ask the night person for towels. The breakfast was basic and the area needed a good cleaning. Overall this hotel was filthy and we looked options to...
