Hotel Cacoon Salzburg was definitley an experience and though it was a good one, there are several things I wish were different.
Listed are the Pros we have gathered from our stay.
The Breakfast Buffet - Hearty breakfast and honestly the best one we've had all honeymoon long. With a price of almost 20 euros per person, you can fill up to make the price worth it
Location - If you are traveling by train and leaving the city by train this hotel is located right next to the train station. It made for a quick arrival and a quick exit into town.
Salzburg Card - You can purchase the Salzburg Card here and it allows you to enter several Salzburg Museums and Attractions (included on the card) for free / at a discounted rate. This was definitely helpful and did not disappoint.
Salzburg Guest Mobility Ticket - When booking here they give you a Mobility ticket for your stay. You get to enter any public transportation for free, which was a huge blessing to have when trying to reach all attractions in Salzburg.
Room space - The spaces within the rooms run small but are not too small to where you are uncomfortable. There are several standard things missing (refrigerator, microwave, etc) but we didn't need any of that. So the space was a good size.
Listed are the Cons about our stay.
Temperature - The rooms don't get cold. It was okay the first night we stayed (3 night stay) but the remaining 2 were rough. So much so we only got around 4 hours of sleep per night and we're dragging throughout the rest of the day. Even with the help of an additional fan, it did not help. This really weighed down our days here.
Location - Though it is close to the train station, it is also a pretty far walk into town. With the mobility pass it was easy, but also time consuming.
In the End I wish I could give this place more stars, but the missing hours of sleep really do weigh down this rating. If the rooms were able to get cold then it would have...
Read moreI have just had a two night stay at the Cocoon hotel and I thought I would leave some feedback. I am a regular traveller with work and I also travel to see new places in my free time.
I found the hotel to be in an amazing location with friendly reception staff and I found the hotel and room to be very clean.
I did, however, have some issues with the stay. The room felt a tiny bit dated and the bed is not the most comftable. The pillows were strange as well. I had a single occupancy stay with a double bed but they gave me a short single duvet. If I'm paying for a double room and not a single then I want a full sized duvet and not a single. The room also had a strange smell to it so had to leave the window open. It was quite noisy before I opened the window let alone after. The loud noise obviously is not the hotels fault but the noise was constant all night. When the window was shut you felt the walls and windows were quite thin however. The blinds automatically came down at about 9am on both mornings to shut out the light. This was quite strange as not only are they loud in operation but why close them in the morning? The switch was pretty hard to find on the first morning as its by the door not the window.
After the first night my room wasn't cleaned which isn't a major issue but rare. Normally you'd have the option if it wasn't standard procedure. I have stayed at plenty of places where the cleaning service is an option but you are asked at check-in or given something to hang on the door. This hotel did neither.
My biggest issue was that check out is listed as being at 11am, however, the cleaner let herself into my room at 830am while I was asleep and then again at 930am just as I was getting out the shower. Luckily I managed to tell her occupied before she saw me but I do not expect to be interrupted before check out. I feel it was not her fault but that ruined what I had planned to be a...
Read moreFor those seeking to stay in Salzburg for sometime, check out the Salzburg card because it will save you money on a hotel. Wish we had known that before booking here.
There are too many reasons to dislike this hotel.
The room is incredibly uncomfortable because of the heat. The AC goes down to 21c but never achieves that temperature, lowest I saw it get was 24.4c. Even with the blinds and shades closed.
Side note: only way to be cold at night is to open the windows but it is very loud since they are located near the train station. All you hear is train horns, police sirens, people talking and the sound of traffic.
The pillows are massive and incredibly uncomfortable.
They only offer a thick duvet, way too hot for this temperature.
The soaps for the shower and sink were not full and ran out by the 3rd day of the 4 days we were staying.
This is an odd one but the door to the bathroom is stupid heavy, elderly would struggle or just not be able to open if they have arthritis.
Side note: Since you can’t leave the bathroom door open it’s a sauna and will sweat when needing to use it.
THERE IS NO SMALL FRIDGE. What hotel doesn’t offer a small fridge. You won’t be able to refrigerate leftovers or cold beverages, really sucked cause we just wanted to have some cold Stiegl beers.
They don’t offer free coffee in the morning, another small thing hotels generally offer. Thank goodness there’s a Starbucks 4 minutes away.
