Location is excellent for the train station as we travel by train. Vienna-Salzburg-Munich. It’s very connected to other cities and town in neighbouring countries. So that’s excellent. However, I wouldn’t travel here alone at night. There were a group or 2, of homeless and/or intoxicated people… when we were there were protest groups travelling to and from the station supporting and set off some fire crackers, some shouting etc. This area has some council flats. This also seems to be the area most populated by migrants. You’ll get good ethnic food here. There are also Burger Jing, Starbucks and McDonald’s just a few yards away. A small shopping centre or 2 and a supermarket. It’s convenient.
However, it’s a bit of a walk to the historical centre where Mozart was born, the famous convent and the furnicular to the top of the hill for a picturesque sight of the city. Nonetheless you can catch a bus there.
We bought a Salzburg card for 3 days which was plenty as it gives free and discounted entry to all the touristy places and free on the bus (red ones - certain numbers only- 3,5 can’t recall the rest). Sufficient to get you to the centre in a few minutes. Especially coming back to the hotel - our legs were tired by then.
For the reason above, you can’t fault the hotel.
It also has a great view from its restaurant on the 6th floor. Breakfast was good enough.
Other than that, it’s quite dire. This hotel- should be 3-star only. Room cleanliness could be improved. There were marks in the walls, light switches. Just little things but very important in hospitality. It could use with a lick of paint in the rooms to freshen it up. It is super tiny as well - Comfort Twin Room. The carpet was stained. And very tired looking.
Service was civil. The lady cho checked us in was civil. Ice cold but civil. Anyhow, an example. The heating wasn’t working. So I informed the reception / manager. When we came back it was still not working. Informed him again and he was nonchalant. Said he will send someone. In the meantime the control fell off the wall!! Being slightly technically minded I went about fixing it and it worked again. However he sent no one up. I then went down just to let him know we required no one. He still seemed unperturbed. lol. A-star for calmness.
Breakfast staff on the other hand - BRILLIANT!!! They deserve 6 stars! Great service with a smile, friendly and efficient. Amazing!
Bed was comfortable enough. Shower was good enough although quite claustrophobic in size.
If you’re using the train to travel from and to other cities, it’s worth staying here. We stayed 4 nights here. Otherwise, stay...

Besides the aircon which seemed forever not working — and from the many reviews, it seems it is an intentional attempt from the hotel NOT to allow hotel guests to adjust the room temperature.
Worst, our family of 4 were trapped for a good 35 minutes in the lift during our stay on our penultimate night when we returned to the hotel after a tiring day — all there was was a tiny A4-sized paper, with very small hand written note to say the lift will be shutdown from 8-8.30 pm. And we only were made to realise that miserable piece of paper after we were “saved” after being trapped in it for 35 horrible minutes.
There simply was no noticeable sign or warning to prevent us from entering the lift which shut die immediately after we entered. The concierge did not notify us at all when we checked in. We stayed a total of 4 nights in 2 rooms.
It appeared that the lift was there to trap us. All the time while trapped in the small lift, there was no air for the 4 of us. The hotel staff on duty that night did not have a busy night and ignored all our yelling and banging on the lift door to get attention. He only came after 35 minutes, claiming he had to find out how to open the dead lift door.
It was a miracle none of the 4 of us succumb to claustrophobia or other cardiovascular problems while being trapped without air.
I mean, which hotel in the world would disable the lift during operations hours, especially a time where guests are returning to their rooms? If the lift needed repairs, shouldn’t it be done like after midnight where there is little usage of the lift??
And all these happened in a hotel in a developed country.
So we requested to speak with the manager who at first refused to talk, saying it was past his office hours. When we insisted, he finally talked to us and promised a refund. However, the manager refused a cash refund which would otherwise have settled all these in immediate service recovery. But no — he insisted it had to go via the net.
The so called refund, which the hotel claimed they did, did not reach us at all. All they claimed was they had refunded to booking.com.
When we checked with Agoda, which was where we booked the hotel, they asked us to check with the hotel after a 3-day wait.
It seems the so-called refund, is merely a game played by the hotel — into tricking unsuspecting customers like ourselves.
So there you go — a refund which was only done on paper — and which is designed never to be returned to the unfortunate customers...

My parents were booked on Nov 28 to Dec 1 in this hotel. Due to the national rail strike on Nov 28, they couldn't get to Salzburg from Vienna. We tried to contact the hotel to make sure they don't consider this as a no-show but the line didn't pick up and once, it even said the phone number is not available.
On Nov 29, the booking partner contacted the hotel for us and managed to get the hotel's manager, Eric to guarantee my parents an extension of stay until Dec 2 without additional charges since they can no longer cancel the no show fee on Nov 28. Note that this a nationwide train disruption. My parents (as any foreign tourists) didn't have the information ahead of time that the train services were cancelled and just went to the station to find out they won't be able to travel.
My parents had a smooth check-in on Nov 29 and showed Eric the email and chat exchanges to ensure they are aligned and he confirmed it is indeed sorted as per the messages.
Unfortunately, on Dec 1, when my parents returned back to the hotel between 4pm-5pm in the evening, they have been locked out and couldn't enter the room, with their luggage locked inside. The hotel manager at the time, Elvira didn't allow them in and insisted that Dec 2 was not granted without additional charges. She denied the proof of exchanges my parents showed them.
The hotel insisted no such discussions were made even after showing the proof of exchanges. After I followed up with the booking partner to request for a refund, they said that they have the right to change their policies.
If they are to change their minds and not keep their words, the hotel should have informed my parents ahead of time so we can make arrangements. The hotel didn't even have the right process or decency to inform them that this is not happening anymore. Instead, they simply LOCKED my parents out and insisted to pay for the night.
The terrible part was how the manager, Elvira Kecskes treated them poorly. She was HARD on them as if they were NOT their customers. The hotel also said, Eric who guaranteed my parents stay was conveniently off for 2 days.
The hotel didn't even consider where will my parents in their SENIORS find a last minute place to stay on a WINTER EVENING. They put them in a situation where they are LEFT WITH NO CHOICE.
The horrible treatment given on the ground was definitely not fair for my parents. The hotel doesn't know how to treat their customers right or handle this situation properly. Their priority at the time was to earn at the expense of their...
