We checked into the biggest room in the hotel, the Deluxe Room, which has a total floor area of 25㎡.||Despite being early, we were warmly welcomed by Rina, who was manning the reception desk. As we visited the hotel during the quiet low season, there wasn't a queue at the reception. Rina was very efficient in processing our check-in, and we got our keys in under 5 minutes. The staff checking us out was also friendly and jovial. He efficiently processed our checkout, checked with us during our stay at Hotel Mercure Salzburg City, and invited us to breakfast at Le Sel. He also got his colleague at Le Sel to take care of us. The staff at Le Sel was also very friendly. He took the time to orientate us to the food selection for breakfast. He jumped in to assist when he observed that we had difficulties operating the butter machine. ||The entryway of the Deluxe Room in Hotel Mercure Salzburg City is only furnished with a set of hooks on the wall and a small two-panel wardrobe with a full-length mirror mounted on its single-panel sliding door. The wardrobe space afforded by this wardrobe is very limited. On the left side of the wardrobe, we can only hang at most four sets of clothing in the designated hanging space. The other half of the wardrobe has six open shelves but is equally packed with things like the mini fridge, the in-room safe and additional bedding, leaving only the bottom shelving for us to use. A shelving panel extends from the wardrobe, where the hotel places mini bar items like Nespresso coffee machines, kettles, glasses, and tea bags. We used the excess space here to place smaller items to maximise the limited storage space in the room. ||The bathroom looked bright and sizeable thanks to the use of white to deck the bathroom and the bright lighting. Black marble tiles and a strip of green light running under the semi-open walk-in shower gave it a modern look. The toilet bowl is tucked in the corner opposite the sink, which seems out of the way, reducing the feel of clutter in the limited space the hotel allocated to the bathroom. A large walk-in shower is next to the sink and is fitted only with one regular shower head. Hotel Mercure Salzburg City supplies its Deluxe Room guests with elemental herbology branded shower amenities, which exude a natural and woody scent.||The main bulk of the Deluxe Room is allocated to the sleeping area that extends from the entryway to the balcony. The design of open-mount shelving that ran from the wardrobe to the glass doors to the balcony gave us a lot of space to put away small items. I like that Hotel Mercure Salzburg City did not furnish the Deluxe Room with unnecessary furniture and flushed everything to the side, resulting in a huge amount of space for us to move around in the sleeping area. A large flat screen TV is mounted on the wall facing the King bed. However, we couldn't get much entertainment from it as most channels were in German. A small work desk with a plastic chair placed beneath the TV gave us additional space to stow smaller items and also provided us with a space to do some work. The purple-coloured single-seater armchair in the corner of the room can be converted into a sofa bed.||The king bed sits by the wall opposite the TV in the sleeping area, with a large motif of Salzburg City on its headboard. The king bed had excellent sleep quality, but the pillows were too soft for my liking. It did not help that the hotel did not provide a pillow menu for us to choose from. The bedside table was sufficient for us to stow our lifestyle devices at night. ||I was surprised to find an indoor balcony attached to our Deluxe Room, which was not advertised on the hotel's website. This balcony is perfect for us to hang out and enjoy the cold winter breeze on the two deck chairs that look out...
Read moreWe stayed for one night at the Mercure on a stopover in Salzburg. The visit started off right - I had asked to be notified if early check-in was possible, and Ms. Benedick called me the day before and told me that this would be available from their end. Very welcome news.
We arrived and found the place very easily. Parking is available above or below ground, for 14 Euros a day (we parked overnight and was out within 24 hours, and was charged a member fee of 12 Euros).
Ms. Benedick greeted us, and I think she was the best part of the hotel. Super friendly and helpful. When the keycards wouldn't work for us, she came up with us to try to fix the doors, and literally ran back downstairs to get new door cards when the entrances still wouldn't work. I would be happy to have her greeting us at any hotel we stayed at in the future.
The person on night shift wasn't as great. The first time we tried to find her, she was in the restaurant having a drink. I tried to call down later in the night to the front desk with no answer; I walked down and found her in the back room watching her phone. She was super friendly once she was found, but didn't have the discipline that Ms. Benedick had.
There are no family rooms at the Mercure; they gave us two interconnected rooms. Honestly, this worked great. The kids had their own room, giving us a measure of privacy. And the best part: two bathrooms! Honestly, such a huge selling point with this type of set-up.
The rooms themselves were a little worn, but well-maintained. My mattress was older and was sagging in the middle, and the pillows had very little substance to them (more pillows can be requested at reception). The rooms were quiet, though we were awoken by a loud dog in the morning at the nearby park. Our little mini-fridge was not working, which we did not discover until the morning after the food we had put inside came out warm.
The location is great - short walk to the restaurants and stores on Linzer Gasse, and across the bridge to the attractions on the other side of the bridge. A convenient option for those that do not wish to be further out and mess with the busses (which, in our experience, are easy to navigate regardless).
The hotel itself I'd only rate 3-3.5 stars, but bumping this up to four due to the service by Ms. Benedick. She is a credit to the chain and hopefully...
Read moreI am writing to express my profound disappointment with the service we received at your hotel bar on the evening we stayed. The experience was so negative that it significantly impacted our stay, and we feel compelled to bring it to your attention.
Upon arriving at the bar, my party of three attempted to redeem our Accor welcome drink vouchers. When we asked the bartender about the available drink options, he responded with an impatient tone, simply stating "wine, beer, and alcohol" and telling us we could not be seated until our order was placed.
The situation escalated when we inquired if an Aperol Spritz was an option. The bartender sighed, rolled his eyes, and gave a reluctant nod. When I attempted to show him the digital vouchers on my phone, the slow Wi-Fi prevented the app from loading. I turned off the Wi-Fi to use my cellular data, at which point the bartender became visibly frustrated, sighed, and walked away from the counter without assisting us further.
After the app finally loaded, I had to request that he return to the bar. I presented two vouchers, which corresponded to the two rooms booked for our party of three. The bartender insisted that three vouchers were required for three drinks. When I explained that we had booked two rooms for three people, he interrupted me with a highly unprofessional and dismissive tone, stating, "lady, I work here, I know." He then walked away again, leaving the issue unresolved.
To add to our disappointment, when we asked for a dinner menu earlier in the evening, he impatiently informed us that we only had five minutes left to order.
I later learned that this individual was the restaurant manager. I was genuinely shocked and dismayed that a manager would demonstrate such an unprofessional and rude attitude towards guests. His behavior was entirely unacceptable and in direct opposition to the hospitality standards one expects from an Accor property. His actions were so offensive that we decided not to have dinner at the hotel, which was our original plan.
While the issue of the drinks themselves is minor, the manager's hostile and dismissive attitude was completely unacceptable and irrevocably tainted our experience. We will not be recommending the dining facilities...
